Book Trailer- The Seer's Lover- Kat de Falla

I love book trailers. I think they're the neatest thing since sliced bread. And it just so happens I have one to share with you today from another TWRP author, Kat de Falla.

She did the trailer and her husband - "Lee de Falla (www.bayafaya.com) did the original music. He is composer and can do book trailer or website music - we'll be doing some giveaways from him in the near future. He records original music that is available free for download with each book I release - fun!" - Kat de Falla.

Take a gander at it and tell us what you think.

Author Interview- Terri Rochenski

Morning readers, join with me in welcoming author, Terri Rochenski.
Read on as she shares her newest book, Alone No More, and describes her perfect day.

Tell me three words that describe yourself.
Organized.
OCD (Border line that is)
Particular

What are your three favorite things?
My three babies
My hubs
My parents & brothers

What is the ultimate goal you have for your career?

I dream of making millions, but what writer doesn’t? My ultimate goal (attainable one that is) would be to make enough to at least buy the groceries each week.

Describe your perfect day?

Silence!!! Seriously, in a house with three little kids, I rarely get any. So yeah. Silence – or perhaps a few birdies tweeting while I sit in the shade on a breezy summer day.
Wait. Add a glass of vino, olives, & cheese.  NOW it’s a perfect day.

When not writing, what can you be found doing?

Wiping noses & little bums, nursing my little man, cleaning, cooking, dreaming of the garden I can’t WAIT to get into the soil this year!

Blurb for Alone No More:

Dismissed from her job as a scullery maid and cast aside by her lover, pregnant Cara Morland has no choice but to return to her father’s farm. While lies of widowhood keep her from disgrace, Cara is faced with a local landowner’s unwanted attentions. Without the social status to do much more than avoid the vile man, she loses hope of ever finding happiness.

A friendship based on mutual loneliness blossoms between Cara and James Elliot, a young farm hand hired by her father. He offers his protection, and one shared kiss reveals his heart, but propriety and her feigned grieving period hinders what they both desire.

When Cara’s stalker learns the truth of her circumstances, he gives her an ultimatum—submit to his possession or he’ll ruin her second chance at love with James.

Bio:

Terri started writing stories in the 8th grade, when a little gnome whispered in her brain. Gundi’s Great Adventure never hit the best seller list, but it started a long love affair with storytelling.

Today she enjoys an escape to Middle Earth during the rare ‘me’ moments her three young children allow. When not playing toys, picking them back up, or kissing boo-boos, she can be found sprawled on the couch with a book or pencil in hand, and toothpicks propping her eyelids open.

Author Interview- Juli D. Revezzo

Good chilly morning readers. Today we have author, Juli D. Revezzo with us. Check out this gorgeous cover and read on as she shares her book, Passion's Sacred Dance, with us.

Tell me three words that describe yourself starting with A, B, and C.

A: Ambitious
B:
C: Creative.

What are your three favorite things?

Writing, books, and movies.

Was there any particular inspiration for your characters or story?

Yes, the warriors came from the story of the Second Battle of Mag Tuired in Celtic mythology. They are part of the mythic army of the Tuatha dé Danann, and their foe is their mythical foe, Balor. It seemed logical  to send them to my heroine. She popped up as the owner of a historical gallery and the holder of sacred ground.

How much is your character like you?

Well, the gallery my heroine owns and her work in it comes from a time in my college years when I worked for my college’s art gallery so, she’s a lot like me. The hero? I suppose, he gets all his knowledge of his mythic comrades-in-arms from me, as I’ve studied Celtic mythology for quite a while. J

Will there be more books in your series, or can you tell us about any previous books?

Yes, absolutely. J The way it’s laid out there will (I think) be several more…. I’m revising book two now, and last November used book three as my Nanowrimo project. Didn’t win, but I managed to get a good bulk of the first draft finished. So look for those in the future.

For the moment, for book one, Passion’s Sacred Dance, should your readers be interested, the blurb is as follows:

Battling mounting debt, Stacy Macken is determined not to lose her historic art gallery. When Aaron Fielding appears and offers to help, she fights to keep the attraction sizzling between them from clouding her judgment. He may be her savior in disguise--but can she trust him?

Aaron intrigues her with tales of the Tuatha dé Danann, sworn warriors who protect humanity from the monsters seeking their destruction. If Aaron can prove what he claims, she would give up anything to help--even the gallery he claims is sacred ground. But with her property set to stage the next epic battle, she needs answers. An old family diary will confirm the ancient legend is true, if only they can find it in time.

If the battle is lost, the enemy will take control of Earth for the next five hundred years. Stacy and Aaron's budding love might only complicate things.

Author Interview- Maria Imbalzano

Morning Readers, Today's interview is with the hardworking Maria Imbalzano.

Good morning Maria, tell us three words that describe yourself starting with A,B, AND C.

Ambitious
Believing
Consistent

How about your three favorite things?

My book, UNCHAINED MEMORIES, in print
A photograph of my family that’s on my desk
A ring my husband gave me

What is the best part and worst part of writing?

I love getting in the zone, when the words flow and the characters speak for themselves. My fingers fly over the keyboard and I don’t want to stop to take a break to do anything else. It’s so gratifying to see the number of pages I just covered with hopefully brilliant dialogue, perfect conflict, and lovable but flawed characters.  On the opposite end of the spectrum are those days when the words are not coming to mind, the dialogue is forced or stilted and the conflict is cliché. Then, you just have to put down something on the page with the hope of rejuvenating those creative juices or walk away and do something else.

How much is your character like you?

My main character in UNCHAINED MEMORIES is a medical malpractice lawyer and I’m a divorce lawyer.  We are both litigators and we both work on emotionally difficult cases.  We also both work a lot. I think all my heroines have a piece of me in them, however, they come from different backgrounds and that is what distinguishes us.  For example, the heroine of my novel, Charlotte Taylor, was in an automobile accident with her parents when she was a senior in high school.  Both of her parents died.  That formed the person she is today. It drove her to her goal of becoming a medical malpractice lawyer, it affected the relationship she has with her sister, and it affects her ability to love without fear of losing that love.  All of our individual experiences over the years create who we are today.  By giving my characters a history, it helps me determine their goals, motivations and conflicts internally and externally.

When not writing, what are you doing?

I represent clients as a divorce lawyer by day. In addition to litigating cases, I also mediate and engage in collaborative divorces.  I also write articles and blogs for local newspapers and our firm’s blog on legal issues in divorce. In addition to practicing law, I am on two boards, Dress for Success Mercer County and Thomas Edison State College Foundation. In both organizations, I am on individual committees.  I am Chair of the Special Events Committee for Thomas Edison as well as the Sponsorship Chair for their annual gala.  For Dress for Success I am on the Board Development Committee. At least three times a week, I go to Jazzercise.  I love to dance and that’s the only exercise class that keeps me coming back. On weekends, my husband and I have dinner with friends and/or our two daughters. And now I am planning my older daughter’s wedding.

Oooh, a wedding, how exciting. And kudos for being so involved in your community.

Below is the blurb for UNCHAINED MEMORIES

As a rising medical malpractice attorney, Charlotte Taylor believes in standing up for the injured, giving them a voice, and advocating for their rights. She couldn't do it for her mother, so she does it for others, even if it means losing the love of her life.

Dr. Clayton Montgomery believes in working hard and playing even harder, until he reconnects with Charlotte. Barely noticing her crush when he tutored her ten years ago, Clay has a chance to make up for lost time when the beautiful lawyer comes back into town...until he discovers her chosen career path.

Now, philosophical differences soon become a reality and Charlotte is faced with the choice of representing a client against the hospital and against Clay. Will Charlotte give up her career and her tribute to her mother for a second chance with the man who got away?

Excerpt:

Charlotte dashed into her condo, threw her briefcase on the floor and stripped her clothes as she hustled to the bedroom.  The clock flashed six-fifteen and even though she wasn’t much of a primper, that gave her less than thirty minutes to make herself look . . . look what?
This wasn’t a date.  It was a casual dinner with an old friend, as Clay had made a point of enforcing when he’d called.  And she’d agreed.  Yet, her heart danced as she jumped into the shower.
After having washed the wear of the day away, she opted for a wrap-around navy dress which clung, she hoped, in the right places.  Yes, it was Thursday and yes, there were no expectations of a date, but they were meeting at Zoey’s, a five-star restaurant in the center of town.  Why not look nice?
With a minute to spare, Charlotte entered the muted vestibule, her stomach somersaulting at the thought of spending the evening with her former crush.  But no matter how many times she’d admonished herself to simmer down, it hadn’t worked.
She needed to act cool, disinterested, aloof. Which had never been difficult with anyone else she dated.  There was that word again.  This is not a date.  And even if it was, Annie had indicated Clay’s reputation was that of a player, although it hadn’t been confirmed.  In reality, he could be in a serious relationship, or gay.  A laugh escaped at that thought.  Impossible.  Clay had too much testosterone, not to mention, unending charm and sophistication where women were concerned.
“Charley, you made it.”  His voice flowed through her senses.
She turned toward him and her breath caught in her throat.  He had on a charcoal gray suit, white shirt and a navy tie. Oh, so sexy.
She leaned in, accepting a cordial kiss on her cheek.
“We have a table in the corner.”
They followed the maître d’ and Charlotte amusedly watched ladies’ heads turn, following Clay in his wake.  How did he do that?
Sorry, ladies, but for the next two hours he’s mine.  She couldn’t help the self-satisfied smile that insinuated itself on her lips.
Candlelight gave the room a soft, romantic glow, and large vases of fresh flowers were strategically placed on tall tables around the restaurant.  Very elegant.  Clay held her chair, and she eased into it, begging for every feminine charm she might have hidden within, to display itself at the right time.  Obviously, her lecture to herself was not working.
“You look beautiful,” he said as he sat across from her.
She looked into his gorgeous green eyes and almost repeated the compliment.  “Thank you,” she said instead.
His thick, dark brown hair hadn’t a strand of gray and his expensive looking suit molded itself to his slim, toned physique.  Maybe he had a few laugh lines around his eyes, but they made him look even better.
“So, other than working at Princeton General, what have you been doing for the past ten years?” she asked, steering the conversation toward a more personal exchange.
He arched an eyebrow.  “Are you asking about my love-life?”
Her face burned at his pointed question.  He obviously knew what she was after.  And now she was embarrassed to admit it.  But she wasn’t going to let on.  Staying cool in uncomfortable situations was a trait of a good lawyer, and she had been practicing it since she’d started law school.
“Is that what you’d like to talk about?”

Author Interview- Chrys Fey

Good morning Readers. After a week off we have the wonderful Chrys Fey with us today. I have to say, having the added advantage of reading the interviews before I post them, I know first hand, this is one book you won't want to miss. Read on as she answers a few questions and gives us a glimpse of her newest romantic suspense with an gripping blurb and excerpt.

Thank you for being with us Chrys, tell me three words that describe yourself starting with A, B, and C.

A: Ambitious (I started writing a series at the tender age of twelve, rewrote that series at seventeen, and published my first eBook in my twenties.)

B: Big-hearted (This year I rescued four stray kittens that were abandoned by their mom before they were even old enough to quit nursing. I donated 14 inches of my hair to Locks of Love this year too. I also donate as much as I can.)

C: Creative (I write short stories and books. I also pen song lyrics, draw fashion designs, and make jewelry by hand.)

What are your three favorite things?

Writing (What can I say? It’s my passion.)
My nephews (I have two nephews and they stole my heart the moment they were born.)
Halloween (I enjoy everything about Halloween. I always say I’ll dress up even as an eighty-year-old grandmother. I’ll be in a wheelchair with a witch’s hat on my head. lol)

Was there any particular inspiration for your characters or story?

Hurricanes Charley, Frances, and Ivan, which all hit Florida in 2004 in the space of four weeks, greatly influenced my story, Hurricane Crimes. If I didn’t have these experiences to draw on, I wouldn’t have been able to write accurate descriptions of what a hurricane is truly capable of.
Adele and Alanis Morissette also inspired me. I always listen to music when I write, and when I needed to create a woman as powerful as a hurricane, I relied on the songs of these two musical geniuses. Their voices and their words spawned Beth Kennedy.

How much is your character like you?

Beth Kennedy isn’t like me in any way. She is who I wish I could be: fierce, strong, and brave. She battles a category 5 hurricane with nothing but a rain coat and manages to save a man from his wrecked car. Then she is forced to stay him after finding out he could be a murderer. If I were in her shoes, I probably would’ve hid in a closet. She does so much that I don’t think I’d be capable of doing, and she endures even more.

What’s the one thing you would do if you could be your character for a day?

If I could be Beth Kennedy for a day, I would . . . well, I can’t exactly say it because it wouldn’t be appropriate, but let me just say I’d enjoy some time with Donovan. *wink*

Title: Hurricane Crimes
Author: Chrys Fey
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Format: eBook
Page Count: 51 (short story)
Official Release Date: March 5th 2014
Publisher: The Wild Rose Press

Blurb:
After her car breaks down, Beth Kennedy is forced to stay in Florida, the target of Hurricane Sabrina. She stocks up supplies, boards up windows, and hunkers down to wait out the storm, but her plan unravels when she witnesses a car accident. Risking her life, she braves the winds to save the driver. Just when she believes they are safe, she finds out the man she saved could possibly be more dangerous than the severe weather.
Donovan Goldwyn only wanted to hide from the police, but the hurricane shoved his car into a tree. Now he's trapped with a beautiful woman while the evidence that can prove his innocence to a brutal crime is out there for anyone to find.
As Hurricane Sabrina wreaks havoc, Beth has no other choice but to trust Donovan to stay alive. But will she survive, or will she become another hurricane crime?

Excerpt:
On the television set, which was fighting to stay alive, was breaking news. She caught bits and pieces of it as she emptied the bowl of blood-tainted water and threw out the cloth. It was about a high-speed chase that had occurred about a half-hour ago. Beth shook her head. Apparently, Donovan wasn’t the only idiot driving around during a hurricane.
She went back into the living room and began replacing all the medical supplies into the first-aid kit. Behind her, a reporter was explaining that the driver of the car was believed to be a murder suspect.
“The name of the—”
The lights flashed, prompting Beth to snatch up her flashlight.
“Donovan Goldwyn.”
Her fingers went cold around the plastic tube as ice frosted her veins. She straightened her spine and turned stiffly to the television, her heart wasn’t beating in her chest. On the screen was the picture of the man who was right now changing in her bedroom. Above it was a caption in bold letters that read—SUSPECT.
She gripped the flashlight in her frozen fingers. Her heart thudded fearfully. She stared into the immobilized violet eyes through the glass.
“Oh my god,” she gasped.
She had brought a murderer into her home!

Author Inteview- Liz Flaherty

Morning Readers, please join me in welcoming the wonderful Liz Flaherty and her writing pal, Bandit,  as she graciously accepts her place on the hot seat.

Liz, tell me three words that describe yourself starting with A, B, and C.

Wow, nothing like starting with a stumper. I always say I’m nice, which requires no thought at all, so…uh…I’m affectionate, barefoot, and clumsy. (Clumsy doesn’t bode all that well for the barefoot part, either, believe me!)

What are your three favorite things?

Family, writing, and quilting, as far as the things that I’d hate to try living without. However, sunrises, pasta, and Pringles potato chips help, too.

What for you is the best part of writing?

The writing itself. Getting to know the people, making pictures with words. Also—sorry, I know this is two—knowing other writers. I know we’re a little…oh, skewed, for want of a better word, but I just love writers.

 What is the worst?

 Promotion.

Was there any particular inspiration for your characters or story?

The characters in THE GIRLS OF TONSIL LAKE have been friends all their lives, and even though most of the things that happen to them are fictitious, they have quirks and habits and even features of my friends. I haven’t had my BFFs all my life, nor do we have secrets that bind us, but the feelings are the same—I didn’t have to stretch to write them.

Thanks for having me here today, Angela!

Blurb: They were four little girls living in ramshackle trailers beside a lake in rural Indiana. They shared everything from dreams to measles to boyfriends to more dreams. As they grew up, everything in their lives changed--except their friendship. Through weddings and divorces, births and deaths, one terrible secret has kept them close despite all the anger, betrayal, and pain.
Now, forty years later, facing illness, divorce, career challenges, and even addiction, the women come together once again for a bittersweet month on an island in Maine. Staring down their fifties, they must consider the choices life is offering them now and face the pain of what happened long ago.
Secrets are revealed and truths uncovered, but will their time together cement their lifelong friendship--or drive them apart forever?

Excerpt:
I wanted Andie to come to New York, but  she didn’t feel up to it. I felt a little shudder go through me when she said that. Andie’s always been so strong, and she’s cancer-free, so I found it startling and frightening when she admitted to feeling less than wonderful. But, as Let There Be Hope shows, cancer changes one in sometimes indefinable ways. Maybe this is one of those changes.
Mark and I visited some islands off the Maine coast once, in our early days. I was so enthralled that he bought me a house on one of them, a little strip of green called, appropriately enough, Hope Island. It reminds me of Bennett’s Island, the fictitious utopia of Elisabeth Ogilvie’s books, except that Hope has all the mod cons.
I love to go there. It’s a place I can be myself with little regard to what anyone else thinks. I sit in my bathrobe on the wraparound porch of the Victorian horror that is my house and drink coffee with Lucas Bishop, our neighbor. I read Jean’s books without worrying that someone will see the covers.
I’ve never taken anyone else—it was Mark’s and my private getaway—but I wouldn’t mind if it was Andie who was there. Or Jean and even Suzanne. Andie and I could work on her book. Jean could cook and keep house since she’s so crazy about doing that, and maybe even spin out one of her romances placed on an island. And Suzanne could...do our hair or something.
We would all be together as we are that single night every year when we drive to the lake and pretend we’re facing down our ghosts. I am a little afraid that the day will come that we’ll have to face them down for real.
I wonder if they’d come.
Bio if you want it: The Girls of Tonsil Lake is Liz’s eighth book, and it is no less thrilling than the first one was. Retired from the post office, she spends non-writing time sewing, quilting, and doing whatever else she wants to. She and Duane live in the old farmhouse in Indiana they moved to in 1977. They’ve talked about moving, but really…36 years’ worth of stuff? It’s not happening!

Author Interview -Velda Brotherton

Good morning Readers. Let's kick start this chilly AM with today's guest Velda Brotherton. So grab your coffee or mug of hot tea, sit back and read on.

Morning Velda, let's start with the same two questions I ask all  of my guest. What are three words that describe yourself starting with A, B, and C.

Ambitious, Broad-minded, Compassionate

What are your three favorite things?

Family, writing, and traveling by car

Is there a process you stick to, or do you just write as it hits you?

The stories come to me as I write. I do have some notion of what I want to write about and I know my characters and locale when I begin. The story unfolds. This book began while I lay on the beach at Lake Ouachita and I saw some guys with motorcycles camped. Some of the story came to me right there, but once I began to write it just went. I always do a lot of research on my subject though, and a lot depends on my mood. This is not the best way to write a book, but it works for me.

Was there any particular inspiration for your characters or story?

My male characters quickly became men who were much in the news when I originally wrote this book in 1985. Two were Vietnam Vets on the road to destruction, the other a younger man who had taken part in the anti-war march on Washington. I'm inspired a lot by what is going on for my contemporary books. Women were rebelling during the 70s and 80s, coming into their own, and so that inspired my female character who was in a trap of sorts and had escaped to search for the life she'd always dreamed of having.

Will there be more books in your series, or can you tell us about any previous books?

Besides Once There Were Sad Songs, I do have a mystery series begun that I'm having fun with. The Purloined Skull is the first to feature Dallas Starr, a Cherokee burned out narc who has come to work for a small county sheriff's department and Jessie West, an investigative reporter who ruined her career in LA and has returned to Arkansas to work for a small weekly newspaper. This is #1 in A Twist of Poe series. I also write western historical romances, and the first in that series The Victorians is Wilda's Outlaw. The new one, titled Rowena's Hellion will be out next year some time. They take place in Kansas. I also have an E book series, Montana Promises, Montana Dreams and Montana Destiny. These are books that were previously published by Penguin/Topaz. I am busy turning out audios of these three. In all I have 18 fiction and nonfiction books available on Amazon and most of them are also available as Ebooks.

Eighteen books!!! I am amazed. That's quite and achievement. Care to share your blurb and excerpt with us?

I'd love to.

BLURB: Once There Were Sad Songs  1985 - A Vietnam Vet on the path to destruction and a schoolteacher searching for the life she always dreamed of having find each other at a remote lake in the Ouachita Mountains. Can they embrace this second chance at love or is it too late?

Excerpt:The Bike Ride

Hurtling along while totally blind, swaying back and forth, up and down, soon upset her equilibrium. Fed a desire to see her own death coming. Snapping her eyes open wide, she beheld scrub oak and saplings, clumps of grass and huge boulders, the narrow path on which they rode, rushing toward them, sucked in and spat out behind the monster bike.
Breathless, she uttered, “Oh, my goodness,” like a child. Closed her eyes. Which was best, or worst? She couldn’t say. Open they came.
Up ahead, a thicket of huge trees loomed, and she locked her arms so tightly around him he grunted.
“Oh, no. Oh, don’t. Oh, slow down.” Eyes shut, toes curled, butt clutching the seat, every organ in her body screaming, she ducked her head. Changed her mind about viewing her own death.
From down deep inside him, laughter roiled. He braked the bike into a slide.
“Here it comes. Don’t put out your feet. Don’t.” She repeated the litany, knew that if she could have moved at all she’d have stuck both feet out to catch the bike as it rolled over.
The skidding machine roared and backfired, sprayed dust and debris that pecked at her face. She held her breath until she absolutely couldn’t do so any longer. As she dragged in a great mouthful of grit, the bike stopped moving, its engine throbbing as if anxious to break free of the reins, continue its race toward infinity.
Feet gripping the pegs, arms locked around him, she gasped, opened one eye, then the other. The world tilted, taking her stomach with it.
“You can turn me loose now, at least a little.” He made a playful gagging sound.
Terror bled away and in its place a rush of excitement, of expectation, of unbridled joy. And a vivid awareness of self, of him, of their bodies touching. Tiny atoms exploded inside her, permeated with the sweet taste of honey and sunshine.
If he noticed anything, he didn’t comment as she loosened her hold, prepared to dismount.
“Hang tight.” To her dismay he walked the bike carefully through the trees, one foot on each side to traverse a steep trail.
They weren’t there yet. She braced herself for what he might come up with next.
“Could use one of those mountain bikes in this terrain,” he said, as if to himself. Then maneuvered slowly along a deserted log road on a flat bench clinging to the mountainside.
Overhead a thick canopy of leaves allowed an occasional flash of light. Clumps of fat cedar cast long veridian shadows, and critters flitted noisily in the woods. Several inches of decaying leaves paved the road along which the bike crawled. Another cool, rain-scented breeze disturbed the close heat, and distant thunder rivaled the throaty purr of the engine.
Under her ear his breathing whispered, his heartbeat thudded, and she kept her head resting against him, though they were barely moving and she could have sat up straight. The sound of his heartbeat was so reassuring, so ordinary, she couldn’t bring herself to move away.
“Seems a damn shame, doesn’t it?” He braked, cut off the ignition, planted a foot on the ground on each side.
“What?”
Silence assailed them. Even the birds quieted in the presence of this strange monster.
“Making so much noise in such a peaceful place. Like we have no respect, or something. Makes you almost wish we hadn’t come here to mess it all up. Some things are best left alone. God, look around you. Isn’t it awesome?”
She did and it was. Trees so thick the ground under them was clean as a park. Here and there clumps of wild flowers displayed their brilliant hues against the muted forest floor. Ferns grew thick in patches, brambles heavy with white flowers she knew were blackberry bushes formed huge patches in spots of sunlight.
Through the vest Steven felt her shivering. “Hey, you okay?”
It took her a while to reply, and he was about to ask again, when she said so softly she might have been speaking in church, “Oh, my, yes. I’m very much okay. That was wonderful. The kids would say, fantastic.”
“Makes you feel good, huh? Free, sort of. That adrenalin rush.”
“Good is an understatement, free is better. Awed is best.”
“Well, let’s go some more, then. Gotta make tracks or we’re gonna get wet.” He kicked the bike back to life and shot off the bench and down a steep incline to a gravelly creek bank. Following the twisting stream bed for a while, they came to a great gash that cut downward.
She held on tight, then laughed. Wait till they made the jump, then he’d see how brave she was. These heavy Harleys weren’t made for such shenanigans, but he didn’t care. What fun was life if you only did what you were supposed to?
Without warning, he squeezed the throttle, topped the rise and sailed skyward. Hanging in the air, he could almost imagine he could fly until there came the moment of truth, the moment when gravity grabbed hold and tugged and pulled and twisted until there was no choice but to fall back to earth. Too soon the heavy machine began to drop like a stoned albatross.

Author Interview Babette James

Morning Readers, for the second morning in a row we have a wonderful  author interview. Today we're lucky to have the lovely Babette James.

Tell me three words that describe yourself starting with A, B, and C.
Amiable, busy, curious

What are your three favorite things?

It’s always hard picking just three things, but my cats, coffee, and pie are among the top of my list.

Is there a process you stick to, or do you just write as it hits you?

I’m definitely a pantser, writing as it hits me. I start with a scene and a character and the story grows like Topsy in every direction until I discover how it all works out. I did create an outline as I go deeper into the story to keep track of scenes and start to build the synopsis, but the story came first and outline second. I am trying to become more of a planner, marking out where I need story points to occur and building the outline as I go. I’m working on several novellas, and planning is coming in very handy as I learn to work in this shorter story form. I’m using Scrivener now and I really like how it works for organizing my story and helps me work more efficiently, while still letting me be fluid in my writing process.

Will there be more books in your series, or can you tell us about any previous books?

I’ve had so much fun writing stories for the circle of friends in my River series. The first book out, Clear As Day, is a spicy contemporary romance about two friends with benefits facing the fears and uncertainties of their changing relationship. My new release, Summertime Dream, is technically a prequel to Clear As Day, and occurs the summer before, but the stories can be read in either order. I have more stories in the works for the series. First on deck is Dave’s story, Love Burns, which takes place in the series timeline immediately after the events in Clear As Day. Once I’m finished editing and submit Dave, I have the next novel to complete, tentatively titled Blame the Moonlight, which is about two-thirds into the draft. I’d like to finish and submit that one by the end of the year, then rough draft the fifth story. After that, I have two more begun.

Do you have a favorite item of clothing in your closet?

I love sweaters. Cardigans, pullovers, turtleneck, knitted, crocheted, from cotton to cashmere, all sorts. If I had an unlimited clothing budget, I’d probably collect sweaters like some people collect shoes. J

I have to say Babette, you are a woman after my own heart. I absolutely love my sweaters.
Thanks for letting me visit here today. Wishing you all a very happy and successful New Year!

Blurb:

The Fourth of July is over, but for these summer lovers the fireworks have just begun.

An unexpected inheritance brings business consultant Christopher Gordon from Los Angeles to quaint Falk’s Bend. He’s carved a week from his demanding schedule to list his great-grandparents’ house for sale and explore his roots. However, disturbing family secrets and the sweet temptation of writer Margie Olsson derail his plans, challenging him to seize the elusive dream missing from his hectic life— love.

A recent brush with death shook Margie’s life, but not her dreams and she’s ready to move forward. Only, standing up to her loving, over-protective family isn’t easy. Helping Christopher explore the derelict mansion and unravel his grandmother’s mysterious past should be a harmless fun taste of independence. But when her experimental summer fling ignites into unexpected love, how can her small town dreams work with his big city life?

Excerpt:

Margie laughed. “Of course, in my dreams it was a bit less rundown.”

“I’d imagine so. Interested in buying?”

“Oh, if only I could, I would in an instant. I’m sure the property alone is worth far more than I can afford.  It’s a huge piece of land. And the repairs and restoration...” Longing swelled. She sighed. Someone else would buy and live in her dream home.

Quiet fell between them for a while. Bees buzzed in the clover. Birds sang, chirped, and flitted. A hummingbird whizzed past. Two more ducks joined the first amid quiet bickering quacks. Dandelion fluff drifted by on an unfelt breeze.

A truck rattled down the lane, breaking the moment.

“Suppose we ought to head back...” Christopher turned, so close their arms brushed, but instead of retreating, he hesitated. Their eyes locked. Where dismay and frustration had filled his green eyes, want simmered. The heavy air electrified.

You need a change.

On a surge of bewildering crazy courage, she stretched up and kissed him. The brief brush of lips to lips left her shaken and her heart pounding, like she had  just come up for air.
His eyes widened in his serious, craggy face.

No, oh, no. Blowing out an unsteady breath, she pressed a hand to her stomach. She’d carried her day’s adventure one impetuous step too far. Her heroines were the daring part of her. She’d never even kissed on a first date before, and this wasn’t even a date.

Before the apology fluttering in her mind could break free, he cupped her cheek and touched his mouth down on hers.
