B – Big Bang Theory fan
C – Compassionate
What are your three favorite things?
My family, writing and chocolate—in that order
What for you is the best part of writing? What is the worst?
I love the ability to create my own world and characters, and write the
books I want to read. The worst part about writing is finding the time to sit
uninterrupted long enough to delve deep into that place where I go to get into
my writing zone (I had a toddler); that and the criticism/rejection. Despite
knowing I can’t please everyone and that not everyone will enjoy what I’ve
created, negative comments still sting.
Will there be more books in your series, or can you tell us about any
previous books?
Shift Happens is the first book in a five book series. So, yes! There will
definitely be more. I’m working on the fourth installment right now and boy, do
things go down in this one! Each book has its own plot, which fully concludes
by the end of the book, but the characters and their relationships with each other
will develop throughout the series.
Was there any particular inspiration for your characters or story?
When I read Richard Preston’s The Hot Zone, there’s a part in the book
where Preston suggests viruses are a part of Mother Nature’s immune system;
that viruses are Earth’s natural defense against the parasitic human infection.
I loved the idea and thought it was a great premise for a new world! In my
Carus Series, all supernatural beings have been exposed after a period of time
referred to as The Purge, where a series of viruses and natural disasters
decimated the human population.
Thank you JC. Now without further ado, drum roll please..... Courtesy of JC, we are proud to present...

SHIFT HAPPENS
HER PAST DESTROYED HER HEART,
CAN SHE PUT IT BACK TOGETHER IN TIME?
Andrea McNelly's job as a government agent is not asking questions, but then a routine assignment turns into a botched assassination of a Master Vampire's human servant. Answers become a priority. Her search to discover the truth is riddled with obstacles, the largest being an oversized Werewolf who resembles a Norse god. Andy can't afford the distraction he offers, because if she fails, she faces eternal enslavement.
Wick's job is to monitor Andy, but he prefers more intimate activities, none of them G-Rated. His choices, however, are often not his own. His ability to help Andy is limited by his bond to the Master Vampire.
Facing many trials and challenges along her path to redemption, Andy learns the value of her freedom might be set too high.
A large black wolf trotted into the clearing to confront me. He had a white-tipped snout, white boots and mitts and would have looked cute had he not been the most intimidating Werewolf I’d ever seen. Standing tall and solid, power rolled off of his body. His eyes bore into mine. I sniffed the air. The strong Werewolf scent of rosemary swirled around me, strong and seductive, laced with sugar. A weird fuzzy sensation spread out from my chest. Whoa.
Alpha.
My other form growled low, demanding release, straining against my skin. The energy of the wolves built—layers upon layers of excitement and impatience. The air pulsated with anticipation. They could sense the imminent kill.
Let me out! My other form repeated, throwing her power against my built up walls, howling in defiance.
When the energy of the Werewolves surged, I finally released her. My wolf form flowed out fast, wiping out the feline in little more than a heartbeat. Smaller, weaker and the size of a natural wolf, a Shifter in this form was no match for a Werewolf, especially a dominant one. I had time to meet the eyes of the Alpha for only an instant before the pack leapt forward. My limbs shook. It went against every instinct ingrained within me, but I rolled onto my back—submissive.

Author Interview- Barbara Barrett
Happy Monday morning readers, join with me in welcoming back author Barbara Barrett.
Thanks for having me back again, this time to spotlight Driven to Matrimony. The cover of this book is done cartoon style at my request, to reflect the fast-paced humor of the story. The challenge was to insert enough depth to my characters to show why they were submitting themselves to what by any standard would be considered ridiculous actions and to make the reader care that they succeeded. I have yet to write anything too dramatic, although that day may come. I prefer the light touch. But comedy isn’t easy, especially comedy on the page as opposed to the screen or stage.
I have to tell you Barbara, the cover was the first thing that drew my attention to your book. It's quiet unique and you're right it really sums up the book. Which was great by the way. I love the little twist in the end.
Tell me three words that describe yourself starting with A, B, and C.
This was my second attempt to come up with three words. And I thought the first time around was hard!
A – analytical
B - blessed
C - caring

Is there a process you stick to, or do you just write as it hits you?
My writing process continues to evolve, even after completing several manuscripts. My goal is to write faster and smarter. Doing that, at least in my current approach, requires me to slow down first and set down a clear-cut GMC (goals, motivations, and conflicts), develop my characters’ traits and back stories and create a plot line. The plot line starts with exactly that, a line, the inciting incident on the left, the conclusion on the right and a few points in between to take the story from left to right. The plot line grows into several written paragraphs, preferably one per chapter or section. Once the rough draft is finished, I lay out the manuscript in a table, scene by scene. This gets updated after each revision so I can track page numbers. Sounds like a lot of process and detail doesn’t it? But once I’ve got this much structure, I can just relax and let the story flow.
Was there any particular inspiration for your characters or story?
My tag line is “romance at work.” In my former life I was a human resources management specialist, i.e., I studied jobs. Various jobs fascinated me more than others, thus far, interior designers, chefs, general contractors, forensic accountants. These occupations have been the inspiration for my stories. The challenge has been to tone down the HR analyst in me so that I only pepper my stories with just a little occupational detail and concentrate more on the characters and their conflicts. I used to write multi-page audit reports, at times devoting paragraphs to detailed descriptions of single tasks. Now, those tasks have to serve only as background to enhance the story. I recently finished the latest draft of the second book of my Sullivan’s Creek series. It focuses on the construction of a residential complex. As luck would have it, we built our own dream house at the same time. I observed the workers throughout the dig and framing and pumped my husband with numerous questions about the entire process. When it came to the chapter in the story where the crew framed one of the houses, I discovered I’d written pages describing that process alone. Brilliant work, really, but in the end, only one paragraph remained in the draft.
Favorite item of clothing in your closet?
I have two knit t-shirts from Land’s End that I wear whenever I want to get really comfortable. Since one has short sleeves and the other long sleeves, it depends on the weather which I choose. These are my go-to tops whenever I’m facing a challenging writing task, so I tend to wear these a lot. Wearing comfortable clothes is a tip I’d give new writers. If you’re not accustomed to sitting in front of a computer several hours at a time, ease of movement helps you get acclimated.
Thank you for your time Barbara. And now here's a brief blurb and the cute cover we mentioned earlier. Readers, make sure you follow the links and pick up a copy yourself.

Diana Maitland spends almost as much time extricating her movie star mother from personal messes as she invests in her forensic accounting job. So much time, her job may no longer be there once Dina returns from cleaning up her mother's latest fiasco, her engagement to a twenty-year- old film student. Vowing it's the last time she puts herself on clean-up duty, Dina sets off for South Carolina to stop the pending nuptials and along the way, almost literally, runs into the father of the groom, Ben Cutler. Single father Ben can ill afford time away from his business, with his competitors threatening to appropriate his new product, yet his son takes priority. Little do they know when they team up to prevent the nuptials they will wind up in a more personal alliance of their own.

Author Interview- Barbara Barrett
Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone. I've got the wonderful Barbara Barrett as our guest today. Welcome Barbara.
Hello Angela, thanks for inviting me to your blog. Though my responses to your questions
will share a little more about me with your readers, I learned new aspects of
my personality as well.
That's great Barbara. I always like to start with a challenge. Can you tell me three words that describe yourself starting with A, B, and C.
Great question. It’s hard
enough to find three words, but finding three words starting with A, B and C
was a real challenge.
A – adaptable
B- balanced
C- curious
What are your three favorite things?
Spending time with
my family
Going to the movies
Meals with friends
What for you is the best part of writing?
I come alive with the thrill and challenge of writing the first draft of a
story, provided I’ve developed my characters, have a strong GMC which I
understand, and have a pretty good handle on the major plot points. In other
words, once I’m confident with the pre-planning, then the fun part begins, the
creative part. The best part of creating is the organic discoveries, pieces of
the plot or character development that serendipitously come together, even
though you didn’t knowingly set out to link them, they just emerge from the
organic whole.
What is the worst?
Discovering holes in the story’s logic and trying to figure out how to
either fix or explain them. Sometimes this can be fun, like solving a mystery,
but when these inconsistencies pop up after I think I’ve addressed everything,
they can be a real downer.
How much is your character like you?
Reese is both driven and haunted by the guilt she carries about her
father’s sudden death years before. A teen at the time, she lashed out at him
just days before his death because he missed her birthday. She never had a
chance to apologize. As a result, she has pursued her career goal, to become
the top chef in the Big Apple, as her way of giving his name the celebrity his
death deprived him of.
My own father died suddenly when I was in my early thirties. Unlike Reese,
my last time with him hadn’t been acrimonious, I didn’t get to say good-bye to
him. He called on a Monday night to tell me he was diabetic and had been hospitalized
while they determined the appropriate treatment. He assured me he was fine. On
Thursday morning, he suffered a massive stroke. Before I could get there (it
was four-hour drive), another stroke and heart attack ended his life. For some
time, I beat myself up for not taking his condition more seriously and arriving
too late. In the years since, I’ve come to accept the idea that sometimes Life
takes those good-byes out of your hands, but I used some of that regret to
develop Reese’s remorse.
Will there be more books in your series, or can you tell us about any
previous books?
And He Cooks Too was written as a stand-alone story, but since it
has been released I’ve been asked by readers if I’m going to do a sequel. Right
now, that’s not in the plans, because I’m working on the second and third parts
of my first book, The Sleepover Clause,
and I’ve just finished the edits of the first book in the Sullivan’s Creek
series, Saved by the Salsa. Juggling
the character development and plot points of two series is about all my brain
can handle for now. But I’m not dismissing the idea of another chef book
someday. Food for thought. (Smile)
Thank you for being with us today Barbara. And now for a tantalizing glimpse of And He Cooks Too
Blurb
Three men, three lies. One thought it was for her own good, one did it for his own good, and the third nearly destroyed her career. Blacklisted by the city's finest restaurants, Chef Reese Dunbar must now put the resuscitation of her battered reputation in the hands of yet another man. The television experience Nick Coltrane's cooking show offers is her best option for restoring her name and becoming the Big Apple's super chef. But after giving her body and heart to him, her trust is put to the test when she discovers that Nick has lied about the real reason he brought her on board, and worse yet, Nick can't cook.
Excerpt
Louis Whatever-His-Name was a fool. If Reese, the runaway chef, had prepared the
few bites of pasta he’d been able to get down, she was a keeper. He’d figured that out even before she let down that gleaming cascade of dark hair. The Big Apple was full of good-looking women, but this one was extraordinary. Those wide-set, coffee brown eyes, pale neck and full, red lips could easily heat up any guy’s kitchen.
Wait a sec. Real chef. Great food. Beaten out of her job by someone with two minutes of television experience. She could be his ticket off the show! Either his replacement or the Inducement Leonie needed to take over as host. The timing of her exit couldn’t have worked better. Who was he to turn down his nose at Opportunity?
Couldn’t let her get away. He threw several bills at the cash register and sprinted for the door. There she was, near the curb, engaged in a futile attempt to flag down a cab. Even a looker like that couldn’t stop traffic at this busy hour.
He called out to her heaving back. “Miss? You probably don’t want company, but if I didn’t catch you now, I’d have to hire a private investigator to hunt you down.”
That got her attention. She pivoted to face him, taking one last swipe at the tiny river of mascara running down her cheek. “Excuse me?”
God, she was gorgeous, even with a tear-stained face. “Back there in the restaurant, I overheard you talking to that guy who must have been your boss. You’re a chef, right?”
“Yes. At least I used to be.”
“And they’re letting you go because you don’t have television experience?”
She blinked. Damn! He’d gone too far.
Her expression turned guarded. “Do you make a habit of eavesdropping on others’ conversations?”
“Sorry. I didn’t have much choice. Couldn’t get past you and your pal.”
She glanced back at the street. “Whoever you are, this isn’t a good time. I just want to get out of here, go home and fall apart.”
“Looks like you’ve already started that last part.”
“Cut the counseling act. I don’t want anything from anyone right now.” She resumed her attempt to snare a cab. Almost as an afterthought, she added, “Unless you’re here to offer me another job?”
“Although I sense sarcasm, as a matter of fact, that’s why I followed you.” He extended a hand as she jerked her head around to stare at him. “I’m Nick Coltrane. I host a cooking show called And He CooksToo—the executive producer’s title, not mine. Ever heard of us?”
She studied him a moment. “I don’t watch much television.”
He moved a little closer. “Even if you did, you’d be hard-pressed to find us. We’re on a local cable channel.” Geez, Nick, can you make it sound any lessenticing? “But we’ve built up a respectable following.”
She didn’t respond. But she didn’t dismiss him either as she kept scanning the street.
“Can’t offer you anything in front of the camera,” he went on. Couldn’t offer her anything period, since only Leonie and Jasper, their supervising producer slash director, did the hiring. But that was beside the point at the moment. “We do need a production assistant,
though. Probably doesn’t pay as much as the job you just left, but it would add television experience to your resume. Sounds like you’re going to need that to stay competitive.”

Author Interview- Kathy Otten
Happy Thursday Morning Readers, just one more day until the weekend, yea!!!! And to tide you over I've got a great interview with author Kathy Otten for you.
Morning Kathy, tell me three words that describe yourself starting
with A, B, and C.
Adaptable, Booklover, Crazy Cat lady
What are your three favorite things?
Chocolate, horses, and books
Was there any particular inspiration for your characters or story?
My characters come to me in my mind. I saw Ryder first, standing in the shadows with his head down. I asked him why, but he wouldn’t say. Then I was at the grocery store and saw a tall, good looking guy with a pretty girl and he had a birthmark on his left cheek. I thought it would be kind of sketchy having a hero with a birthmark. Scar yes, but a birthmark? Then a couple weeks later I saw the same guy and girl again. I still resisted the idea. I went to get a sub and the guy behind the counter had a birthmark on his left cheek. I caved. Once I did, Ryder began telling me his back story. Once I jotted down his goals and fears, I searched my brain for a heroine. When I found Victoria, she was hiding in the shadows also, but for a very different reason. She was desperately looking for someone to save her, but Ryder wasn’t interested. The story layers grew from there.
When not writing, what can you be found doing?
I usually read when I get the chance and when it’s not -18 degrees and snowing, I walk my dog on the old railroad track which is now part of Rails for Trails. We see deer, turkeys, and the occasional bear. There are also both hawks and bald eagles in the area and we sometime see them flying or sitting at the very top of a tree. Walking is a good way to unwind and think about my characters or snags in what ever story I’m working on.
If you could spend the day with any celebrity, who would it be?
Kevin Costner. I’ve seen quite a few of his movies over the years and I think he’s played almost every kind of character there is from a loving dad to a serial killer. Some actors seem to play every character the same way. Yet Kevin Costner’s characters are all different. They are believable. There is an easy, laid back grace to his acting and he connects with the audience. As a writer it’s important to nail the nuance of expression, body language and voice of our characters. I like watching how good actors are able to use their body language to convey to the audience the thoughts and emotions I would normally write. Kevin Costner has also directed and produced movies too, and it would be fun to talk about how he decide which scenes to cut, something I hate to do. I saw his new movie, 3 Days to Kill, and he still looks hot in a pair of Ray Bans and a leather jacket.
Thank you so much for being here today Kathy. Readers, be sure to continue reading for a glimpse of Ryder and Victoria's story.

Fleeing her abusive husband, Victoria Van der Beck is captured by down-on-his-luck bounty hunter, Ryder MacKenzie. As she comes to love this man who hides his face in shadows, she wonders if he could be valiant knight for whom she's been longing. Is he the champion who would save her from the evil prince, or is MacKenzie just a paid lackey determined to return her to her husband?
Ryder MacKenzie never believed anyone could love him, for he was cursed the day he was born. He only wants to be left alone to live on his ranch in peace. But rustlers have stolen his cattle. He's been ambushed and his horse killed. Now his one chance to get his life back is to return a society princess to her husband. Maybe his luck is about to change. A least she isn't pretty.
Excerpt:
The peacefulness of Ryder MacKenzie’s home settled into her soul with every breath of air she drew,
soothing the restless need to run that had consumed her since she’d hit Nicholas with the whiskey bottle.
When she wandered back to the cabin, she expected Ryder to be in bed, but he was still in the tub,
his knees drawn up, pale and knobby, his head resting on the rim.
She grabbed Beau by the scruff of his neck and shoved him outside closing the door with a sharp bang.
Ryder jerked upright, sloshing water over the sides.
“I’m sorry,” she said. “I’ll come back.”
“No.” He leaned back and closed his eyes. “I’m done. I just want to wash my hair.”
“I can do it for you.” Before the words were out of her mouth, she questioned what part of her brain they’d
come from.
Maybe it was because Ryder was safe, and this was a chance to physically connect with a man on her own
terms, without fear. Maybe she needed to satisfy the curiosity that had taunted her all week, urging her to explore the body of this man she desired.
But maybe it was simply because he was Ryder MacKenzie, and in his own determined, unassuming way, he’d touched her heart and become her hero, and there would never again be a man she so ached to know.
That was great Kathy, thank you. And what a great cover. It looks like it truly captures your vision of Ryder.

Author Interview- Renee Charles
Thank you Renee for being here today. Can you tell me three words that describe yourself starting with A, B, and C.
A-Abandon (the
wild kind)
B-Bubbly
C-Clumsy
What are your three favorite things?
(Not people
right ‘cause hubby and kids happens to equal 3)
My wedding
ring, a simple band of gold.
My box of
artwork from the kids that I have collected since they first started drawing.
They are both talented artists now and I love to look at the old stuff to see
how much they have grown up.
A picture of me
kissing my great-grandma on my mantel, whom was a sweetheart and full of
P&V at the same time.
How much is your character like you?
LOL Funny you should ask that …I
incorporate entire arguments and or conversations my hubby and I have had into
my characters. I figure if it’s real enough that we’ve had the conversation,
then maybe so have my readers and they will relate.
What is the ultimate goal you have for your career?
My ultimate
goal is to one day be sitting in my office / library in our log cabin in front
of a lake somewhere supporting my hubby and I’s 4wheeling and snowmobile habits
via doing what I love…writing. (My hubby’s job will be to keep my rigs running
and a fire burning…lol) I have simple dreams.
Favorite item of clothing in your closet?
Favorite item in my closet…oh my
super sexy shoes! I got them on clearance for $15 from Torrid. And I can barely
walk in them. But I love to wear them under my desk while I type. Or wear them
and an apron while I bake. I pretend to be much more glam than I am. LOL The
hubby likes them to. Since he is 6 foot 4, it makes kissing him much easier. ;)
They make me feel beautiful.

An idealistic school teacher and ex-corporate mogul manage to find love despite a looming worldwide catastrophe. Can their love survive while everything around them is dying? EXCERPT:
A storm that spelled danger flashed across Sam’s face. He advanced on Megan so fast, she backed up against the side of the Suburban. Planting a hand firmly on each side of her, he pinned her with his arms as well as his gaze.
“What I want? Are you so hard headed you can’t tell what I want?” He covered her mouth with his lips and crushed her clever comeback with an assault on her senses.
Megan pushed him, but he didn’t budge. Instead, he continued to kiss her until her heart raced and cheeks flushed with need. All resistance melted and she succumbed to the warmth of his embrace. Her arms wound around his neck of their own accord pulling him closer while her tongue sought his in a passionate dance, completely ignoring what her heart wanted.
When he finally broke away leaving Megan breathless and wanting so much more, Sam put his forehead to hers and watched her mouth like a drunk watches amber liquid poured into a glass. “You,” he rasped. “I’ve wanted you since I found you hanging from that damn roof, and all our little encounter in the river did was add fuel to the fire.”
