Surprise, Surprise !

This has been such an amazing week.

Another school year is over and sadly my fourth and fifth graders are now fifth and sixth graders (each of them proudly finished on A honor roll). Time is passing way too fast and I wish they could just be the babies they once were for a little bit. Instead, daily I’m being plagued by the fleeting glances of impending adulthood that is unbelievably just around the corner. It might be a fleeting glance, a turn of phrase, or simple chore that’s been done without the ever present fussing that has to be done to get something accomplished! It’s enough to make this momma cry!

It’s also Free Week for Love’s Battle. A nerve racking time, but a happy one in which I've reached #2 in the Romance, Time Travel category! Be sure to stop by and pick up your copy if you haven't already- http://bit.ly/LovesBattle

And last, but certainly not least in my amazing week, is the reason for this post.

I wanted to let everyone know what a wonderful group of people I work with, and how deeply thankful I am to work with such supportive and caring people. Every year on the last day of school, we have a tradition of eating a steak lunch- I think it's the one thing everyone looks forward to from the first day on! Afterwards we honor those who are retiring and have made such an impact on not only their students, but their fellow teachers are well. It was when this was over that the real surprise took place.

They had all got together and planned a secret book signing party for me!!!!

I was completely surprised and overwhelmed. Thinking of it now make me want to cry all over again. And I'm not talking pretty cry either. These generous, supportive people took it upon themselves to throw me my very first book signing, complete with cake!

It was truly a day I will never forget. A huge thank you to each and every one of you who had a part in this surprise!

Please enjoy the video below- and note, that I was indeed surprised- as if you couldn't have already guessed by my hair and the complete ugly cry that was going on!!!

Author Interview- Mickey J. Corrigan

Happy Saturday All, we've got author Micky J. Corrigan on the blog today. Read on to find out about her free read from publisher The Wild Rose Press, and to see what makes her tick.

Tell me three words that describe yourself starting with A, B, and C.

A. Fun. But…
B. Moody (I'm a writer type with an Irish dark side). And…
C.
Hot-tempered! (Watch out!)

What are your three favorite things?

1. Laughing. 2. Being out in nature on a beautiful day.  3.Hot sex. (Imagine doing all these things at once!!)

What for you is the best part of writing?

The best part of writing is losing myself in a creative whirlwind in which I fall into a kind of timeless dream and have no idea where I'm going or where I will end up. This is the wild ride to a story. I also love editing (and I edit others' work as a profession), which to me is like solving interesting puzzles and making order out of chaos. This keeps my brain active and out of trouble (most of the time).

What is the worst?

I could do without the self-loathing, as one of my writer friends said recently. It's awfully hard to maintain one's confidence under a rushing stream of rude, impersonal, even kind and gentle rejections.

Will there be more books in your series, or can you tell us about any previous books?

Book #1 in the Hard Stuff series is WhiskeySour Noir, an end of the world novella about a young woman who works at a homeless shelter and falls in love with a sex offender.  This one is dark.

Book #2 is Vodka Warrior and it's really zany. The protagonist is drinking too much when she meets the new guy next door, a personal trainer who fancies strippers—in his hot tub, and at all hours. The friction between the two neighbors builds.

Book #3 and Book #4 are still in press. Tequila Dirty and RealLife Rum are both crazy stories, each one focused on a sassy woman who finds herself involved in a terrible crime.

I love writing this series. All the women live in Dusky Beach, a seedy little seaside town in Florida. These women are tough chicks dealing with tough times when a gorgeous guy comes along—and it isn't a good idea to get involved, but they just can't resist. I'm having a lot of fun writing the Hard Stuff.

Favorite item of clothing in your closet?

I wore a pair of boot cut jeans for ten years, then I cut them into shorts to wear at my desk for many more years. I couldn't wear them outside, they were ripped to shreds. Now they are tacked to my wall. What does this say about me? (see photo)

Brief Bio:
Mickey J. Corrigan writes hot romance and Florida pulp. Mickey's stories have appeared in anthologies and online publications, and she has published more than half a dozen novellas with a variety of digital presses and the novel Sugar Babies, a romantic thriller. The Wild Rose Press is publishing her series The Hard Stuff, hot and sassy novellas about about tough women in tough situations who fall in love.
Mai Tai Guy is a Free Read to introduce the series.

 Blurb:
When I was seventeen, I had the perfect boyfriend. Nothing fancy, he went straight to my hips. He looked good on me. He was all mine early on and he should have stayed that way. Too bad, because now he's the most successful businessman in town and I'm just not over easy. Yes, it's been decades, but every five years our high school reunion has brought us together. With hot, then cold results. Now he's on the menu again. And this time I have my own delicious way of making sure our meet-up will truly satisfy.

Excerpt:
Life is like a menu. You've got to make choices or you'll stuff or starve. I was never talented at the selection process. Clothes, lovers, hairstyles, jobs, real estate, BFFs, food: I’ve always made wildly random or slightly psychotic decisions. A few times in my life, however, I’ve bull’s-eyed. My high school boyfriend, for example, was perfectly on target.
Nothing fancy, he went straight to my hips. Plus, he liked me as a person. He looked good on me. Now, if that's not the perfect man menu, I don't know what would be.
He was all mine early on and he should have stayed that way. I thought he would. When we were seventeen, we were a power couple. I loved us.
We worked after school and on weekends at the local pancake house. I was Harried Young Waitress Over Easy. He was Cute Boy Under Glass. You could see him back there at the grill in his funny toque as soon as you walked in the front door.
Actually, another early flame of mine worked at Pancake King, too. The two guys were neighbors and best friends, but that didn’t stop me from necking with both of them. When I call it necking, you imagine fully clothed couples in dark corners, right? Choice of words is important here. I want you to like me.
Yes, I was a little loosey goosey. But really, my high school boyfriend was the long-range guy for me. Only I didn't know it then. I was a dozen lovers away from realizing there's one man for every woman. Like the ideal pairing: Bordeaux and Stilton cheese, Irish potatoes and freshly grated black pepper, Louisiana shrimp and minced garlic. These are the kind of tastes one develops with time and experience. As kids, our choices seemed unlimited, like you can have yourself one or both. Even more, if you want. It seems like you can have yourself everything on the menu.

REVIEW:

Mickey was kind enough to include a free copy of Mai Tai Guy for me to read when she approched me about hosting her on my blog. Previous to this I also had the chance to read, Whiskey Sour Noir.

I have to say that Mickey and I are complete opposites. I'm very modest with a tame, almost timid writing style.

Mickey seems very carefree, open, and wild (in all the good ways). She has a hard and gritty writing style (one that frankly I'm envious of, as it shows true talent) that pulls the reader in, taking them out of their comfort zone and into a world of her own creation where the lines between right and wrong a blurred. Mickey has so accurately captured the baser side of humanity that you find yourself truly vested in the characters she's brought to life, rooting them on until the very end.

Mai Tai Guy and Whiskey Sour Noir are excellent reads when you need to take that all important step out of your comfort zone and shake things up. I give them both four hearts.

My Writing Process- Blog Tour Post

Happy Monday all. I hope everyone had a great Mother's Day weekend. Today I'm participating in a blog tour spotlighting my writing process.

I got involved in the blog tour through author Larry Farmer (you can find the link to his book and our previous interview on the What's On My Bookshelf page of this blog) , you can view his writing process post at http://www.francesevesham.com as he doesn't have a site of his own yet.

Now on to the questions:

1) What am I working on?

I am currently writing Faith's Forever, the second book in the True Blue Trilogy. It's been an uphill battle and the story has not come easily. I know what I want the book to be in the end, it's just getting the words, timeline, and characters to work right that's giving me issues. But I will prevail!!!!

2) How does my work differ from others of its genre?

I haven't read too many books that deal with reincarnation (Linda Howard's, Lake of Dreams and LJ Smith's, Soulmate are the only two I can think of) so that's one way. And the fact that Love and her sister are magic born triplets who can see true love makes it pretty special. But other than that, Love's Battle is pretty much the same as all the other fabulous books out there that end with happily ever after.

3) Why do I write what I do?

I write what I do because I love a happy ending, knowing that those characters I've invested a few hours with, cheering them on, crying and laughing with them as I followed them literally through all their ups and downs, have come out of it so deeply attached to each other there's no way in heck they'd ever separate. To me, reading and writing romance answers that basic need we all have of finding the one who will never leave us. That, and I'm a hopeless romantic!

4) How does your writing process work?

I tend to write the majority of it out by hand first. I start with an outline to get on a creative roll and write as I come up with ideas. When it's time to type it up, I usually fill in the blanks as I go. I research, spending a lot of time on Pinterest, getting the scenery or clothing I have in my head just right. And when I think I have it right, I go back and edit, which usually lead to another layer of additions. And before I know it, I'm done. Or at least, half way there!

Now, I'm supposed to say who is on next week and give you their website link and a short bio, but unfortunately I didn't have any takers. So instead I'm going to highlight three great books by TWRP authors. Be sure to check out the What's On My Bookshelf page for other great stories.

Author Interview- Kyann Waters

***UPDATE: Be sure to check out the bottom of the post for Kyann's Rafflecopter Giveaway!!!**

Happy Monday readers, I have the wonderful Kyann Waters with me today. Kyann is sharing her newest book, Betrayed Vows, and it looks to be a hot one!!

Hi, Kyann, tell me three words that describe yourself starting with A, B, and C.

A – I hate to say it, but I’m anal – as in obsessive and a control freak.  I like things done my way.

B– bucolic – I like the simple things. Family, food, and writing lets me be home. I love that. I live on the bench of the Wasatch Mountains. We have deer in the yard all winter long.

C – Chatty – I could kill a perfectly productive day on the phone with my sisters.

What are your three favorite things?

The easy answer is my husband of more than 20 years and my two boys, ages 14 and 16.
But there is also this inner beast that craves sweets. That monster would say carrot cake, banana pudding, and yummy sweet decadent coffees from Starbucks.

I love sweets! Was there any particular inspiration for your characters or story?

Oh yes, several years ago there was a news story about the increased number of marriages happening within the prison system. I wondered what would make a woman marry a prisoner. And then I thought of the possible repercussions once the felon was released. In the case of Betrayed Vows, Gretchen marries a prisoner because that was the type of relationship she could handle. She has more baggage than a Samsonite store. Landon, our hero, is really a good guy who made some poor choices when he was young and dumb and intends to make the most of his freedom. And Crystal, the neighbor, just sort of stumbles into their chaos but finds herself drawn to Landon in ways she shouldn’t be. As the story unfolds all of their lives spiral out of control.

Music is a big influence on my writing. I have certain songs that inspire each chapter, or the whole book. What helps to inspire you?

I love to listen to music while I write, but I can just as easily have the TV on for background noise. I take inspiration from everything around me. Friends and family know that if anything interesting or unique happens in their life, it could become fodder for the next book.

When not writing, what can you be found doing?

Oh my hello, I have more hobbies than Martha Stewart! I knit (making baby blankets right now for my sister) I garden and then can fruits, veggies, jams and jellies from what I grow (the summer garden starts are in the greenhouse. Yep, I’m a greenhouse gardener too.), I’m a recipe whore and I love to bake (Cupcake Wars look out, I’m honing my craft. I made the best carrot cake cupcakes on Easter).  I love to run the trails in the mountains above my house. It’s about a 5 minute walk to the trailhead. And in between all of that, I’m a mom to two boys.  I’m a soccer mom to one and a band mom to the other.

Oh my gosh, Kyann. we have so much in common!!
Except for the baking part and the running, I just like to eat and couldn't run to save me life!

BETRAYED VOWS BLURB

Everything in Gretchen Booker’s life was as she wanted it. A husband on her terms. Companionship without physical contact. That’s why she married a lifer. Who would’ve thought it would all come to an end after only ten years?
Life on the outside is not as Landon Booker expected. But how can he make a future for himself beyond prison walls when the woman who is supposed to love him wants to see him sent back to the penitentiary.
Crystal Evans isn’t a home wrecker. Landon needs a friend…someone who can help protect him from his conspiring wife. Falling in love wasn’t part of the plan.
Yet vows betrayed leave all three with something to lose—Crystal her heart, Landon his freedom, and Gretchen the life she had before.

EXCERPT

After he jumped in the shower, dried off and dressed, he went downstairs and found Gretchen in the kitchen. “Morning,” he mumbled. She didn’t look up from the newspaper spread out on the table. Cup of coffee in hand, dressed for the day, she didn’t give Landon even a cursory glance. “Late night. Where were you, or don’t I need to ask?”

Landon took his cup of coffee and joined her at the table. He covered his mouth while he yawned. “You weren’t home. I grabbed a burger and fries.” He sipped his coffee. “You don’t have to ask. I was with Crystal.”
She put the paper down. “Why do you want to hurt me?”
“In order for me to hurt your feelings, I’d have to believe you give a damn.” He stood and crossed the room. “I don’t. Do you want toast?” He turned his back to her and reached for the bread.
“How can you say that? I’ve stayed with you for ten years.”
“And I wonder why,” he interrupted. “Why did you agree to have me paroled into your custody if you didn’t want me here?” He waited for her to answer. When he turned around her eyes were cold and vacant.
