Author Interview- J.L. Sheppard

Happy Monday Reader. I've got the wonderful J.L. Sheppard back again for a sneak peek at her newest book, Heavenly Desire. Book three in the Elemental Sisters Series, it will be released in early September.

Tell me three words that describe yourself starting with A, B, and C.

Adventurous, Blessed, Creative.

What are your three favorite things?

The only ‘thing’ I ever valued beyond reason considering it was a material object was my car, a black 2004 Mustang V-6. I’ve always loved Mustangs, and I bought it with zero miles when I had just graduated from high school. Recently, I had to get rid of it since I’m expecting and Mustangs aren’t practical family cars. What I value most is being surrounded by great family and friends.

What for you is the best part of writing?
The best part of writing is getting the ideas.

What is the worst? The worst can be editing. I say ‘can be’ because sometimes I truly enjoy it. Other times, it can be frustrating.

Is there a process you stick to, or do you just write as it hits you?

I generally write as it hits me because I can’t control when the ideas come. When they do, I always jot them down then go from there.

What is the ultimate goal you have for your career?

To write books, publish them and have people enjoy them.

Will there be more books in your series, or can you tell us about any previous books?

Heavenly Desire is the third installment of the Elemental Sisters Series. The first is Demon King’s Desire, the second is Burdened by Desire. Each features a different sister, and there are five sisters in total, so there will be at least two more books.  Besides this series, I started a spin-off, which will feature characters in this series as well. I’ve recently submitted the first book of the spin-off series to my publisher.

Tagline:
Will he sacrifice his wings for a woman he loves but can never keep?

Blurb:
Clyde, an angel, battles the one thing he believes will lead to his fall from heaven—his new found emotions, forbidden among his kind. Nonetheless, the Angel Lords promise to promote him to warrior when he completes his last assignment—to find Jade. When he does, emotions he never knew possible arise. For the first time in two thousand years, he cursed his existence. Knowing she can never be his, will he sacrifice his wings for a woman he loves but can't keep?

Excerpt:
He bent toward her, wrapped one arm around her waist, the other around her back, then buried his face in the crook of her neck and inhaled.
Relishing the feel of her body melded against his, he forgot the worries consuming him. She soothed his ache with a mere touch, with a mere embrace.
Exactly what he’d wanted, exactly what he needed.
She then pressed her full lips against his cheek, kissing him lightly.
An innocent kiss. There was no passion behind it, but an unconscious consuming need, one he’d never felt, swelled inside him—desire. It was exciting, overwhelming and terrifying, blocking logic and reason.
All he wanted now was a single kiss. All he could think about was how her soft lips would feel pressed against his.
Marvelous, he concluded.
It was absurd to want what he did and feel what he felt, for he was an angel. Carnal desires even as insignificant as kisses were for others, for all others except his breed, and yet he felt it so deeply it seared him.
The desire that gripped him didn’t release him even after she unhooked her arms from around his neck, and the warmth of her body melted away.
There he stood, immobile, battling the desire she’d sparked. He didn’t want to leave yet knew he had to before he’d acted out his longing.
He willed his body to move. Finally, he placed one foot behind the other, stepped back and strode away praying the yearning he had no right to feel for a woman who would never be his would soon subside.

Author Interview- Alicia Dean

Happy Tuesday Readers. Visiting us today is author Alicia Dean. Be sure to leave a comment following the interview as Alicia is looking to give away a copy of either Volume 1 or 2 to one lucky comment-er!!!

Hi Angela, thanks for having me.
I’m happy to share Burdened, Tales of the Scrimshaw Doll, Volume 2.
Burdened is a boxed set of five short stories by five Oklahoma authors
(my offering is a romantic suspense, Thicker than Water), that share a recurring theme of an antique, cursed Scrimshaw doll. This project is special to me, because it was a collective labor of love with my friends and fellow Okies.
(Volume 2, Cursed, is also available. See buy links for both below)
They are each on sale for a limited time for only $2.99!!!

Tell me three words that describe yourself starting with A, B, and C.
A: Appreciative (Or, at least I try to be. I’m very grateful for my family, friends, and that I’m able to do what I’ve wanted to do all my life, write books)
B: Bossy (Maybe it’s from living alone so long, but I like to be in control and have things my way. But, I also try to be flexible from time to time)
C: Cook (I love to cook for my family)

What are your three favorite things?

Writing
MLB
Traveling

What for you is the best part of writing?

Hearing from readers who enjoyed my work.

What is the worst?

Being stuck, as I am now. I’m working to finish the last few scenes of a suspense I’ve been writing, off and on, since 2009. I can’t quite get these last scenes right.

What’s the one thing you would do if you could be your character for a day?

My story in this boxed set is Thicker than Water, and I absolutely love my hero, Jake Devlin. So…if I could be Julia for one day, I wouldn’t spend it arguing with Jake, that’s for sure. Maybe the opposite of arguing…

What is the ultimate goal you have for your career?

Of course, like any author, I would love to be a rich, famous, NYT best selling author, but that’s more a dream than a goal. I would love to have something I’ve written turned into a movie or television show. My actual goal, though, is to continue writing and improving my craft, and to keep publishing until I am senile, and then to still think I’m publishing.  J

I like how you think Alicia!

Cursed:

Blurb for Thicker than Water:

Sometimes, secrets refuse to stay buried—
A ten-year-old accidental killing and an ancient cursed doll are only part of Julia Bennett's problems. When she returns to her hometown of Covington, Oklahoma for an old friend's funeral, she's thrust into the middle of a murder case—and discovers she never stopped loving her high school sweetheart.
Jake Devlin is now the sheriff of Covington and faced with solving a murder. He isn't surprised to find Julia in the middle of things. She still seems like the troublemaker whose reckless mistake caused a man's death years ago—and who broke his heart when she left him without so much as a goodbye.
Jake makes it clear he's over her, and Julia can't wait to leave Covington behind. But when another friend dies, she knows she must stay. Can they put the past behind them and stop a killer before he claims another victim?

Excerpt

“Turn her loose.” The low, controlled voice came from Julia’s left. She almost wept with relief.
Jake.
Donny Ray cut his eyes to the side, then back to Julia. “Ain’t none of your concern, Sheriff. Me and her was just having a little chat.”
He loosened his hold enough that Julia could turn her head. The rough brick wall ground against her skull. Jake stood a few feet away. The streetlight behind him illuminated his silhouette like an angel of mercy. He stood with a hand on one hip—the hip where his gun rested.
He tipped his hat back off his forehead. “She doesn’t look like she wants to chat, so I’m thinking you should probably turn her loose.”
“And if I don’t, what you gonna do about it?”
Jake’s shoulders lifted in a laconic shrug. “Don’t think you want to find out.”
The world stilled. She waited for Donny Ray to react. After the longest seconds of her life, his grip on her shoulders relaxed, and his hands dropped away.
“Yeah, sure.” Donny Ray puffed out his chest. “You’re real tough with that badge and gun, Sheriff. Wonder what would happen if it was just man to man.”
Jake unclipped the badge from his waist and slipped his gun belt off his hip. Squatting, he placed them on the ground, then straightened, and held out his hands, palms up. “Okay. Now it’s man to man.”

My Review of Tequila Dirty

Mickey J. Corrigan has done it again! With her third book in the Hard Stuff series, Tequila Dirty, brings the reader back to Dusty Beach with new characters Rita Deltone and Detective Liam Donell. Mickey crafts a fast paced, hard to look away from tale that casts the reader into Rita's shoes from the opening sentence and leaves their eyes bugging out with a whopper of twist, no one sees coming. Brilliantly written,  Tequila Dirty, is short, steamy, and satisfying.  Do yourself a favor and add this book to your collection today.

I give it five hearts.

Looking for some audience participation !!!!!

Hi all, today I'm looking for some audience participation.
My current WIP has hit a brick wall and I've come to the conclusion that I need help.

Going hand in hand with the True Blue Trilogy, I've decided to write a few short stories about the couples the Howard sister's bring together- I'm tentatively calling this the True Blue Brides Trilogy (it may end up being a series later on, we'll see).

First up is the tentatively titled- Vegas Bride- featuring Melanie and Everett. Without going into too much detail these two will be bonding over a scavenger hunt- and this is where you all come in. I need you to leave, in the comment section, an item you'd like to see the couple hunt for. My top ten favorites will be chosen so be sure to leave your full name so that I can acknowledge you in the acknowledgements of the book when it become ready for publication.

To help you decide on an item keep in mind the couple is on a road trip from Maryland to Vegas and has stopped in Kentucky.

And to thank you for your help, here's a peek at the blurb I've been working on. I'd love your comments on it as well. Thanks.

Vegas Bride Blurb

A jilted bride and would be lover play the odds in… Vegas Bride.

Everett Smith and Melanie DeAngelo’s lives have been running parallel for years, until one day when Lady Luck intervenes.
Enter, Love Howard, modern day cupid.
First introduced in Love’s Battle, Everett’s and Melanie’s lives are on a collision course in this winner take all romance.

When the cards are dealt and hearts are on the line, can this couple overcome the odds and make a lasting pair? Or will they fold?

Author Interview- Dawn Luedecke

Happy Tuesday readers. Today I'm proud to be a stop on Dawn Luedecke's blog tour. Not only has Dawn agreed to answer a few questions but she has brought us not one, but two books to fall in love with.

Welcome Dawn, tell me three words that describe yourself starting with A, B, and C.

Artistic, Blonde, Charismatic

What are your three favorite things?

Reading, Outdoors, Family

A. What for you is the best part of writing?
B. What is the worst?

The best part of writing is being about to disappear into a world in my own imagination. I love reading, but when I write I get to create the world. The worst is the keeping up with the ever-changing rules of writing fiction.

Is there a process you stick to, or do you just write as it hits you?

I write as it hits me, but I also have basic formats that I follow. One of which was a class my chapter did on the components needed to infuse emotion into writing.  I take the outline from the lesson and rearrange it to best fit my story.

Was there any particular inspiration for your characters or story?

In my Montana Girl stories, my inspiration is my sisters. I come from a large family and all of my sisters are such characters that they make perfect heorines.

What a great compliment to them! Now let's hear about those books.

Here are the first two books in my Montana Girl series, To Tame a Montana Heart and Big Sky Brazen.

Blurb

Running from a past of privilege, deceit, and danger, Travis Simms is ready to settle down. What better place to forget all he left behind than the quiet little Montana town of Lolo Hot Springs? His goal is clear — build a hotel and his own destiny without complications —until one of the town’s most troublesome women captures his attention.
Dusty Larson is hell bent on independence, helping her sister run the Triple D Ranch. She can do anything a man can, and do it better, so she certainly doesn’t need one in her life. The only problem is she seems to attract bad luck and danger...and Travis. Can he tame her wild ways and keep his bachelor status intact — or does he risk losing his heart?

Excerpt

She watched him with care. “I don’t know if I love you. I like you, a lot, but I don’t have
the slightest idea what love feels like.”

Travis’ smile grew slowly across his face. “I understand. I’m not sure if I love you or not, but I
also don’t think I could live without you. So you will always have that.” His voice was almost a whisper
when he said the last.

“Truly?” Her voice cracked and she had to force herself to breathe easy.

“Truly.”

She inclined her head and took two brisk steps toward him. She leaned over and kissed him with all
the fever of a thousand fires. He reached up and intertwined his hand through her hair to hold her
still as he plundered her mouth.

She released him with a shaky breath and jumped back to turn on her heels. “Put something
nice on. I’ll be back with a preacher man.”

“You know, I heard you only have to say ‘I marry you’ three times and then you’re hitched.”

She threw him a sassy look and slammed the door shut.

Blurb

John needs to settle his score with a man from Texas, protect DeEtte from not only outlaws but also determined suitors, and convince her trust him enough to marry. Can he clear his name and keep her from running head first into a range war and possible death?

Excerpt

“So what are you in for, doll?” The woman in the corner with lemon-yellow hair, asked. “Did ya kill
someone?” A raspy, harsh cackle followed. The malicious sound of the yellow-haired woman’s laugh
convinced DeEtte that this particular whore had stopped caring long ago.

DeEtte’s eyelashes rose and she looked at the scantily dressed women in the corner. She took a deep
breath and watched the two with a blank face, although her insides were bubbling like a spring from a
mountainside.

“Yep,” she said and pursed her lips. She tilted her head to the side and stared at the women with what she
hoped was the hollow eyes of a cold-blooded killer.

Without the slightest hint of surprise, the blond responded, “How’d you do it?”

The prostitute motioned to the woman beside her. “Rosie here stabbed the yellow-bellied sidewinder
when she finally had enough of his right hook, didn’t you, Rosie.” The blonde looked at the other woman,
leaned back on her cot, and turned back to DeEtte. “I helped hide the body, but damned if they didn’t catch
us just as we dumped him in the river.” She chuckled to herself. “His body may be cold, but his soul is burnin' in hell, and that’s the truth of it…ain’t it, Rosie.”

The talkative woman rose to her feet, took two steps toward DeEtte, and held out her hand. “Name’s
Mona. Did you take over Rosie’s job at the Last Chance?”

DeEtte grasped Mona’s rough, callused hands and nodded. She noticed the slight tremor as she shook it
hard. She may talk as if she doesn't care, but she’s deeply affected by her lifestyle choice.

“So, who’d you kill?” Mona asked as she returned to her seat.

Rosie’s lips curved in a snarl. “Probably a john, like we did.”

DeEtte tried to bring a curious glint to her eyes, like she’d seen in a few unsavory characters in the past,
and hoped it worked to convince the women. “Na, I killed my sister.”

The occupants in the small cell grew silent as they studied her face.

The look on Mona’s face told of her emotions, from skepticism to acceptance, as clear as the mirror
hanging above the saloon’s countertop. Mona sized her up, eyeing her, then lifted her head and kicked the
corners of her mouth up in a smile. “What she do, steal your man?”

“Nope. She stole my boots,” DeEtte lied.

DeEtte sat on the cot opposite the women and stretched her feet out on the floor. When she leaned
back again against the wall, her breasts strained against the tight red fabric of her low-cut silk dress.

“You kilt your sister ’cause she stole your boots?” Rosie repeated. Her tone sounded curious, but without
real emotion.

“Yep.” DeEtte looked up at the ceiling, dirty from years of filth and dust.

Without giving an explanation, she let the silence grow. Both women watched her, waiting and
wondering, by the looks on their faces.

DeEtte wanted the women to remember her as the mysterious murdering madam, suspicious to everyone.
A cold-blooded killer. However, she just couldn’t take it anymore. Exhaling forcibly, she sat up and stared into the eyes of the prostitutes to begin the tale of how she’d killed her older sister.
