Author Interview- Chrys Fey

Good morning readers.
Join with me this Sunday in welcoming returning author Chrys Fey
as she introduces us to her latest book,
30 Seconds.

Good morning Chrys, tell me three words that describe yourself starting with A, B, and C.

Auntie – I am an aunt to two boys who I love with all of my heart.
Book lover – How could I not love books?
Crafty – I enjoy doing arts-and-crafts.

What are your three favorite things?

My four adopted cats – Milo, Otis, Cole, and Clover.
 My Skullcandy headphones.
Tea. I love a good cup of hot tea.

Music is a big influence on my writing. I have certain songs that inspire each chapter, or the whole book. What helps to inspire you?

Music is also a big influence on my writing. I actually named “30 Seconds” in honor of my favorite band, Thirty Seconds to Mars. Their song “Attack” played on repeat while I wrote an exciting scene. And the song, “I Can’t Make You Love Me” by Bonnie Raitt, helped me capture my heroine’s emotions when she thinks Blake doesn’t love her as much as she loves him.

What’s the one thing you would do if you could be your character for a day?

If I could be Officer Blake Herro, I would arrest people. I have a list! If I could be Dr. Dani Hart, I would hop into bed. Preferably with Blake. *wink*

Will there be more books in your series, or can you tell us about any previous books?

There won’t be any books following “30 Seconds”, but I am working on a sequel to my previously published “Hurricane Crimes”. These two books are going to be part of a series dedicated to disasters and crimes. I am pretty excited about it.

Blurb:

When Officer Blake Herro agreed to go undercover in the Mob, he thought he understood the risks. But he's made mistakes and now an innocent woman has become their target. He's determined to protect her at all costs.

The Mob's death threat turns Dr. Dani Hart's life upside down, but there is one danger she doesn’t anticipate. As she's dodging bullets, she's falling in love with Blake. With danger all around them, will she and Blake survive and have a happy ending, or will the Mob make good on their threat?

Excerpt:

She panted with fear. What if they see the chest? What if we get caught? What if my breath stinks and I’m breathing right into Officer Hottie’s face? She shut her mouth and let oxygen flow through her nose.
Her eyesight slowly adjusted to the darkness and she could see Officer Herro’s silhouette. His head was turned and he was listening to the thuds of heavy boots getting louder; the intruders were coming their way.
Then the thunder of footsteps sounded right next to them. “There’s no one here, Red,” someone announced.
“Look for documents,” a man ordered, who Dani could only assume was Red. “I want the name of the person I’m going to kill.”
A moment later, there was a reply. “All the mail is addressed to a Dr. Hart.”
Hearing her name said aloud by one of the men who had ransacked her place made her want to gasp. Her mouth fell open and her breath was reversing into her lungs, but before she could make a sound, Officer Herro lowered his lips to hers, silencing her. Stunned, she could only lie beneath him with her eyes wide and her body tense. She couldn’t believe he was kissing her. She wanted to push him back, but knew if she did he might hit the inside of the chest, giving away their hiding place. That was when she realized he was kissing her so she wouldn’t gasp.
She let her body relax. After her initial shock faded, she was able to feel his lips. They were comforting and caused a reaction deep inside her. She couldn’t stop her lips from reacting to his. It was an innocent connection, a soft touch of lips. Until his hand slid from her shoulder to her neck and the kiss deepened into something else.

Author Interview- MJ Schiller

Happy Wednesday readers.

What better way to pump up your week than with a new book
brought to you by fellow TWRP author,
 MJ Schiller.

Thanks for being with us today MJ.
Tell me three words that describe yourself starting with A, B, and C.

So I’ve read Angela’s other author posts and enjoyed them and thought I wanted a crack at it. Now I’ve had the opportunity, let me tell you, it’s hard! An A word that describes me? Well I can’t say AMAZING, because you’d probably stop reading there (Man! Is she full of herself!) And along the same lines I’d have to rule out ADORABLE, AWESOME, ASTOUNDINGLY TALENTED and ABSOLUTELY STUNNING. ACCESSIBLE makes me sound dirty. AUTO-CORRECTED, while it may be true, is not a very flattering trait for an author, so we’re gonna leave that one out. AWKWARD? At times, but not quite right. AGGRESSIVE? No. ANALYTICAL? Definitely not!  ALL-IN? Getting closer.

When I love something, I LOVE something. I’m all about it. (The word obsessed comes to mind.) Another example is for a diet to work for me it has to be extreme (no sweets, no carbs, no anything good), thus dieting doesn’t work for me. But the word I think I’m going to have to settle on is ABSCESSED. As in, I recently had a tooth removed that I had my very first root canal on, twenty some years ago. When I went back in for a follow up on that tooth a few weeks ago, they discovered the one above it was abscessed and now I have a third tooth aching. I guess that’s another A word for me, ACHING!

B- this one was easier, and probably goes without saying- BOOKWORM! I’ve always been a bookworm. The kid walking out of the library with a barely manageable stack of books, already looking forward to the next visit there. Early on I loved, almost to the point of worship (see ALL-IN above) Nancy Drew, Sherlock Holmes, and Ian Fleming’s James Bond. You can see my interest in adventure, danger, intrigue, and, above all else, romance (arguably not so much in Nancy Drew and Sherlock Holmes, but you get my drift.) I also adore C.S. Lewis’s Narnia books and Brian Jacques’s Redwall series, which hints at my fascination with the fictional worlds created by authors, which is probably best seen in my sci-fi romance books.

C- well I’m going to have to put this one out there for my gal-pal Kelly, who makes it into many of my books and is eternally teasing me about being a CRAZY CAT LADY. I do love my kitty, Serena, and she is a fabulous writing companion. She’s curled up next to me right now, in fact. I mean, just look at that face! Who wouldn’t be crazy about her?

What are your three favorite things?

Karaoke. Listening to local bands. Going to rock concerts. I guess you can see why so many of my heroes are rock stars!

Was there any particular inspiration for your characters or story?

There’s a kind of funny story about that. DAMAGE DONE started with an opening line. Just one line, running through my head. “Even through bloodshot eyes he could see she was different.” The story evolved from that. But when I finished writing Michael’s story, I realized I wanted to include the back story, the reasons why Michael was the way he was. So now DAMAGE DONE starts with Michael’s father’s story and my great opening line is in the middle of my document. But that’s okay. I like the new opening line I came up with, too.

Music is a big influence on my writing. I have certain songs that inspire each chapter, or the whole book. What helps to inspire you?

It depends on the book. My first book, TAKEN BY STORM, was sort of inspired by the movie Troy, and The Prince of Egypt. My second book, TRAPPED UNDER ICE was inspired by several Nickelback songs. ABANDON ALL HOPE began with the title, which was actually a title of a book my heroine wrote in TRAPPED UNDER ICE. Music inspires a lot of my work though. I have a story outlined that has its beginnings in the music of Breaking Benjamin.

Describe your perfect day?

Well, of course it would begin with sleeping in until nine. My kids would be gone to school, and my husband would have chosen to work from home that day. (Convenient!) I would spend the morning writing, we’d go out for a fabulous lunch, come home and spend “quality time” together and then I’d write for the rest of the day. The kids would all be spending the night somewhere. Hubby would take me out for a dinner that was even better than the lunch. We’d catch a movie, come home, and I’d have time to read before bed and more “special time.” Doesn’t that sound heavenly?

MJ that sounds absolutely fabulous!

BLURB

When an unhappy youth leaves him damaged, will Teddy Mckee be able to find love?
“Teddy Passmore McKee was born in Cork, Ireland, with a limp and a chip on his shoulder that threw his balance off all the more.” When he falls in love with the dark haired beauty born of an Irish father and a Spanish mother, will Gabrielle Quinn be able to restore his balance? And what about the charming Sean Hennessey? When Gabby catches his eye, too, will Teddy’s playboy best friend cause his own damage?

Fourteen years later, will Teddy and Gabrielle’s son be able to overcome the damage done to him in his childhood?
“Even through bloodshot eyes he could see she was different.”  But can Michael leave behind the bottle, and his womanizing ways, to win over the lovely Tess Flanagan? Tess has sustained some damage of her own. Can she and Michael overcome the terrors of the past and learn how to love each other?

And if they do, will they be able to elude those after them who want to create their own damage?
On the run after an altercation leaves their boss in a pool of blood, will Michael and Tess be able to stay one step ahead of their pursuers? Or is it simply too late to correct the damage that has been done?

EXCERPT

“Tessie…” He offered again. “We have to get out of here.”
She remained frozen in her spot, staring blindly over the cliff. He moved a step closer and gently grasped her elbow. “Tess—”
She whirled around and his heart caught in his chest as he stared into her wild green eyes. Tears shone on her damp cheeks, glimmering in the moonlight like trails of scattered diamonds. “Nay, Michael,” she said, her words coming out choked. “I have to tell them the truth. It’s my fault. …I k-killed him.” She sobbed.
He looked at her sadly, begging her, “Let me help you.”
The back door creaked open and light spilled out from the bar across the grass, startling them. He saw Jimmy Flynn’s outline in the doorway. “They’re out here!” he yelled.
Without waiting for a response, Michael took Tess’s arm and steered her along the cliff’s edge. He stepped over the railing and helped her to the other side as well. They stood on a narrow ledge. To the left a trail dropped off toward the sea. He led her skittering down the path, loose rock pebbling the beach far below. He had taken the pathway many a night when he was drunk and feeling particularly reckless. Tonight he hurried over it with only self-preservation and Tess’s safety in mind.
They heard voices above them, coming from every direction as searchers fanned out along the top of the cliff. Their eyes met. They hardly dared to breathe. A flashlight beam ventured over the railing and along the cliff face. She clutched his hand, squeezing it until he lost feeling in his fingers. He tried to flatten himself even more tightly against the rock face, wishing it would somehow melt and absorb them. Several seconds passed and the beam of light was joined by another, and another, each swinging away, and then toward them again.
He grabbed a quick look at the churning sea below then closed his eyes for a second, and his stomach dropped. He took a deep breath before turning his head to look at Tess. Her eyes were closed and her lips were moving fervently, but she emitted no sound. He swallowed, wondering again why the sight of her affected him so. After several minutes a voice called out, “You won’t get away with this, Mikey.” Had someone seen them? He heard Jimmy Flynn mutter, “Wherever they are, we won’t find them tonight.” One by one the lights disappeared until only a solitary beam shone.

Author Interview- Christy Effinger

Happy Monday readers.
I've got the excellent Christy Effinger with us today and we're chatting about her new paranormal romance. She's also offering a Rafflecopter giveaway for a $25 gift card,
so be sure to read through.

Welcome Christy, tell me three words that describe yourself starting with A, B, and C.

Amicable, Balanced, Conscientious

What are your three favorite things?

Books, coffee, wine

Describe your perfect day?

My perfect day would be spent on the beach with fruity drinks and a juicy book. That night I’d have a candlelit dinner of seafood and champagne with my husband. Afterward my publisher would call to say my novel was the #1 bestseller on Amazon. And then I’d see a unicorn.

When not writing, what can you be found doing?

If I’m not writing or doing promo work, then I’m probably playing with my baby daughter. I’ve been reading Walt Whitman’s poetry aloud to her, but she has different tastes. And by that I mean she prefers to chew on Dr. Seuss board books.

Favorite item of clothing in your closet?

Maybe I’m supposed to say “my little black dress” or something like that, but honestly? My German tavern wench Halloween costume. Followed closely by my pirate costume. And my flapper costume. I love dressing up for Halloween, and I love the memories those outfits evoke.

Say Nothing of What You See by Christy Effinger
Published by The Wild Rose Press
 Released August 29, 2014
 Genre: Paranormal New Adult
 Length: Novel

Blurb:

When her aunt steps off a grain elevator into the emptiness of a prairie evening, Mira Piper loses her one protector. Chloe, her flighty mother, impulsively drags her daughter to Bramblewood, an isolated spiritualist retreat in northern Michigan, run by the enigmatic Dr. Virgil Simon.

Chloe plans to train as a medium but it's Mira who discovers she can communicate with the dead. When her mother abandons her, Mira discovers a darker aspect to Bramblewood: the seemingly kind doctor has a sinister side and a strange control over his students.

Then one winter's day Troy Farrington arrives, to fulfill his mother's dying wish and deliver her letter to the doctor. But calamity strikes and he finds himself a captive, tended by a sympathetic Mira. Haunted by her dead aunt and desperate to escape Bramblewood, Mira makes a devil's deal with Dr. Simon. But fulfillment comes with a steep cost...betrayal.

Excerpt:

“You are absolutely stunning, Mira.”

I stole another glance in the mirror. The material was a rich, shimmery gold that fell from my shoulders in folds of liquid light. It looked like something a Greek goddess might wear. Oh, how I wished the girls from Amberville High School could see me in this dress!

“When you came here,” said Dr. Simon, “I had a vision of you like this. I looked at the girl before me, but I saw the woman you are now.”

“Thank you,” I murmured, gesturing toward the piles of clothes on my bed. “You’ve been so generous. I know you’ve spent a good deal of money on me—”

“Money means nothing,” he interrupted abruptly. “I have more than I could ever spend, more than I know what to do with. Don’t consider the cost.”

His tone was brusque, and I wondered if I had offended him.

But the next moment Dr. Simon smiled. “I think of you as my charity case. You were like a doll thrown out in the garbage. I simply rescued you from the trash, cleaned you up, and dressed you in something decent. But the beauty was present all along.” He touched my cheek. “Here.” Then he touched my forehead. “Here.” Then he touched my chest. “And here.”

I knew he was referring to my heart, but even so, his hand on my chest made my face warm with discomfort.

“You blush so easily,” he laughed. “You’ll never be able hide anything, Mira, with such a transparent face.”

“That’s all right,” I said, taking a small step back. “I don’t have anything to hide.”

Author Interview- Sydney St. Claire

Happy Tuesday readers, come help me celebrate Sydney St.Claire's steamy release of
Cinderella and Prince Dom!
To get us started, Sydney as graciously agreed to a quick Q&A.
Be sure to read through and follow the Rafflecopter link
at the end of the this post for a chance to win a few goodies.

Tell me three words that describe yourself starting with A, B, and C.

Amiable & Adaptive

Bohemian—
a person who has informal and unconventional social habits, especially an artist or writer or as my mother says, doesn’t give a rat’s tush about what anyone thinks.

Crazy Cat Lady

What are your three favorite things?

This is tough so let’s just assume family and friends are a given <g>.

1.       My animals count as one. I can’t live without my cats and dogs. My cats especially are my constant companions especially when I’m writing. There are times though when I could use my desktop for me to work.

2.      Two would have to be music. I love music and there are times when I need it to ground me. If I were to believe in past lives, I’d have to say I was both a singer and dancer in a past life because there are certain types of music that make me want to break out in song and dance like a musical! Don’t worry. I won’t. If  I was a singer, that was in the past <g>  and the talent did not carry forward.

3.      Creating. Let’s just state that creating stories and worlds are a given so this will be about crafts. Currently I love crochet and knitting. In the past, I did a lot of cross-stitch—I owned a cross-stitch store. I also had a framing shop and loved creating frames and mats to compliment pictures. Crafting is another form of being creative and meets different needs. Once I write my books and they are published, I never look at them again. But if I knit a top or crochet a blanket, I can look at it and wear it and enjoy it over and over.

Music is a big influence on my writing. I have certain songs that inspire each chapter, or the whole book. What helps to inspire you?

I also love music. Not always the same and it changes though I binge. I might listen to Neil Diamond for a month or more then switch to Native American songs—Walela & Joanne Shenanoah. I’ve also binged on Jaya Lakshmi and love Gregorian Chants.  I don’t have music that fits a particular chapter, character, or book. Just music that inspires the creative mind, depending on what my mind needs. My current binges are Blackmore Nights which is Celtic music. Enya works too. I also enjoy David Lantz, especially Cristofori’s Song. Just moves me deeply. He’s new age piano. Often I use Pandora and choose a new age station and get a mix of new age piano, Celtic, and other music. I could go on but this is enough to let you see that I have very eclectic tastes. Should I mention how I used to drive my family nuts with bagpipes and howling wolves set to music? Nope, won’t go there.

Will there be more books in your series, or can you tell us about any previous books?

Oh, there are going to be lots of books in this series as long as I have readers interested. Once Upon A Dom so far consists of six books.

Cinderella & Prince Dom is the first book and it’s due out September 12th
Red & The Big Bad Dom follows in Nov.

I’m finishing Snow & Her Huntsman now and that should see light of day winter 2015.
Beauty Submits to her Beast, Rapunzel & Her Dom, and Wendy & Captain Dom all follow. There are at least six more Fairytale stories planned after this set.

Favorite item of clothing in your closet?

Ha! Let’s dispel the image of famous writers writing in dresses or business professional clothing! Or on the other side of the spectrum, romance writers writing in sexy lingerie. My favorite item of clothing is a pair of short that were so threadbare, that when I snagged them on something, they ripped right down the side. Only the hem as kept them from ripping clear apart. They are comfy, and in the triple digit summers, nice and cool. And no, I don’t wear them out…

BLURB:

Jaimie Newberry is jobless, her rent is due, and her cat just died. On top of that, she was accused of embezzling before she was fired. When her friend invites her for a weekend of kinky fairytale role-playing, she agrees to go as Cinderella. What has she got to lose when sex with a handsome prince is involved?

CEO Bryce Langston needs to know if Jamie is innocent of embezzlement or just very clever. He arranges for her to be his weekend sub but soon realizes the pretty scullery maid is naïve to the BDSM lifestyle. As her prince and her Dom, he intends to not only learn the truth but to make sure she has a fantasy come true.

EXCERPT:

Bryce spotted his Cinderella entering the parlor below. The ruffles of her skirt swirled playfully around slender thighs, and the low cut of her simple top revealed a nice swell of breasts. Deep inside, anticipation hummed, and not just for learning the truth. Annie had been gone five years now, and while he hadn’t been celibate during those long years, he hadn’t participated in the games he hosted either. This would be his first.
And only because he needed to know the truth.
Jaimie had uncovered an embezzling ring in one of his accounting firms. Her boss implicated her, her files backed the man up, but as he’d found out, the man himself had proved to be a liar, and the leader in the group of employees caught.
Lucy, his personal assistant, swore Jaimie was innocent, that she was the one who’d discovered the theft, then been fired because of it. The fact Jaimie had blown the whistle lent her story credence, as did the files she gave Lucy to give to him, all dated before she’d been fired. He’d hired auditors, and they thought she was innocent. But he wouldn’t know until he spoke to her. A study of her employment files indicated the woman was smart. She could easily have done what she did to make herself look innocent and then gotten out before being caught.
“Does it matter if she is as guilty as the others?”
Bryce nodded. “Yes. If she was part of it, I’ll press charges. No one steals from me.” He’d already gotten confessions out of the rest of his employees and fired those who were supposed to oversee that department. Fools were more concerned with their ladder climbing and brown-nosing instead of doing their job.
Determining Jaimie’s level of involvement was unfinished business. Was his Cinderella truly innocent, or had she been framed? He couldn’t find any money trails leading to her bank accounts, but that didn’t mean she didn’t have money squirreled away elsewhere, under another name. No, he needed to know for sure.
Glorie laughed low in her throat. “My, your little playmate looks ready to bolt, and it’s not even midnight.”
Bryce narrowed his eyes. Glorie was right. Jaimie was staring at some of the costumes with mouth agape. He couldn’t see her eyes but imagined they were wide with shock. Even from where he stood, he could see her face was flushed with embarrassment. She took a big gulp of her champagne then grabbed Lucy by the arm. Though he couldn’t hear the conversation, it was clear his sub was having serious doubts.
Rocking back on his heels, he grinned. From the questionnaire, he knew Jaimie was new to this world, and he was looking looked forward to introducing her to some light BDSM.

AUTHOR BIO:

Sydney St. Claire is the pseudonym of Susan Edwards, author of 14 Historical Native American/Western/Paranormal romances and the author of the popular “White” Series.
Sydney loves writing and sharing stories of love, happiness and dreams come true with her readers. She credits her mother for her writing success. Encouraged to read as a child, she always preferred happy endings which meant romances were her favorite genre. Sydney takes her readers into the world of erotica romance where her characters come together in explosive passion as they solve life’s problems and find true love along with the best sex our hero and heroine have ever experienced.
Sydney’s office is quite crowded with three dogs at her feet and five cats to keep her company while she writes. Three cats always insist on beds on her desk, barely leaving enough room for her monitor and keyboard. Life gets fun when all five insist on supervising…
When not writing, she enjoys crafts of all sorts including quilting, sewing, cross-stitch, and knitting. She and her husband of 30 + years are avid gardeners. He takes care of the veggies, and Susan is in charge of the ‘pretties’. Her medicine wheel garden is in a contact state of war: flowers vs. weeds. Sadly, right now the weeds are wining…
While writing, she listens to a wide variety of music. Her current favorites are Blackmore’s Night and David Lanz.
