Author Interview- Michelle Hughes

Happy Monday readers.
It's not very often that I can say that I've physically met any of the authors I interview on this blog.
In fact, in the year since my writing journey began, I can honestly say I've never met any of my fellow TWRP authors or staff.
But that's okay, our internet connection is strong and our friendships are growing stronger.

But for today's author that is not the case.

I was blessed to met Michelle over the summer when our paths crossed and truly over the moon when I learned she was a highly accomplished author. To say the least, it rocked my little world!
Now it's time for her to rock yours...

Hi Michelle, thanks for being with us today. Can you tell me three words that describe yourself starting with A, B, and C?

Wow, you’re really making me put on my thinking cap this morning.  Let’s see.  A:  Adventurous, I think that definitely sums me up.  The thing is all the adventures are in my head with four of my five kids still living at home.  For B?  I guess I’d say balanced.  I have a set schedule to do writing, then another for my family.  If I didn't set those, I could see never getting anything done.  As far as a c word that wraps me up, the first thing that comes to mind is crazy.  I gave up a job in respiratory therapy to write books for a living.

What are your three favorite things?

The first one is easy, my family is my number one favorite thing.  The other two are a little more difficult.  I love to write, obviously, but I think traveling once my family is raised, will be up there with writing because I want to see the world.  I was pretty fortunate that my father was in the service because we lived in Germany for three years, but there’s so many places I can’t wait to see.

Is there a process you stick to, or do you just write as it hits you?

I’m going to give away my trade secret here, just kidding.  But I get inspired by looking at what’s hitting the bestselling book charts. Not that I copy their ideas, but I get a feel for what readers are looking for by seeing the types of stories they are buying.  I’m a romance writer, so I look for books of that caliber when scouring the charts.
My process is a little insane.  At the moment I’m writing four different books at once.  When the inspiration hits me I decide which book to open up each morning to work on.  I sincerely believe you have to schedule a time to write every day or you’ll have trouble completing one.

Was there any particular inspiration for your characters or story?

My first book, Tears of Crimson, was inspired by dreams I’d had since I was a young teenager.  Rafe, that’s my main character, came to me in reoccurring dreams that I still have today, over twenty plus years later.  I’ve always felt like he was my guardian angel.

If you could spend the day with any celebrity, who would it be?

I’m a huge fan of Alexander Skarsgard.  My latest book was dedicated to him, that’s how much I love his work.  For the few people that live in seclusion, he’s best known for his role as Eric Northman from True Blood.  I had the opportunity to meet him a few years ago in New Orleans, but unfortunately my schedule wouldn't allow me to take the trip.  I have to say of all opportunities I could have missed out on, that one stays with me.  I’m not even sure I could have had a conversation with the man, but it would have been a life memory.

Thanks so much for letting me share a little insight into my life with your readers.
If you’d like to find out a little more about my work, feel free to visit my pages:

What's your price?  If someone offered you an opportunity to never worry about finances, and have everything in this life that had been denied before, would you still hold on to your morals and refuse?  I always thought I would.  But two million dollars is a hell of a big incentive!  I considered myself a strong, independent woman, until the recession slammed me down face first.  Had my situation been different I never would have considered taking his offer!

Cade Stellan.  Billionaire, and closet pervert.  He liked to watch.  And I'm not referring to sporting events!  He wanted a woman that he could control and unfortunately, I'd caught his attention.  I say unfortunately because as much as I wanted to deny him, the price he offered proved that I could be bought.  Why a man like him had to pay for anything would never make sense, nor would why he had chosen a person like me to fulfill those needs.  As much as I wanted to turn him down, and prove to myself that my standards were higher, I knew I wouldn't.

A world of passion awaits you on Fantasy Isle, the pleasure resort for adults.  The Fantasy Isle book series, offer readers a stand-alone novel for each fantasy revealed.  Playing off the Fantasy Bar & Grill Trilogy, Michelle Hughes welcomes you to a world of sensual temptations. Through His Eyes, is the debut book for Fantasy Isle and introduces readers into a voyeuristic mind set, with ménage undertones.

Author Interview- JC McKenzie

Welcome readers, I've got the wonderful JC McKenzie for you this Thursday.
And we're helping her celebrate the release of her newest book
  The Shucker's Booktique,
part of the Lobster Cove series brought to you by The Wild Rose Press.

Hi JC, thanks for being with us again.
Can you tell me three words that describe yourself starting with A, B, and C ?

A – artistic
B – brainy
C – caring

What are your three favorite things?

My son, my husband, the ocean… in that order!

What for you is the best part of writing?  What is the worst?

The best thing is being able to write the book I want to read.
The worst is trying to juggle my desire to write all the time with a full time job and being a mom, wife and friend.

Is there a process you stick to, or do you just write as it hits you?

Right now, I write whenever I have a spare moment. I feel like I’ve been doing mostly editing with two releases coming out around the same time and a third project in the final editing stage before submission, but I hope I can spend more time actually writing new stuff soon. Mostly I write after my son has gone to bed or is taking a nap. It’s hard to write a sexy scene when you have miniature cars being chucked at your face. Plus, I don’t want to miss spending time with my son.

Was there any particular inspiration for your characters or story?

When the Wild Rose Press announced the Lobster Cove project, I immediately got the idea for this story and it wouldn’t leave me alone. I had to put my other project on hold, so I could get it out of my system.

What’s the one thing you would do if you could be your character for a day?

If I could be Lon, I’d ride the waves and live by the tide. There’s something truly beautiful about getting lost in the moment and tuning into the environment.

Blurb:

After her fiancé dumps her and her beloved Aunt Jenny goes missing, Willa Eklund travels to Lobster Cove with a broken heart to search for Jenny while running her bookstore. When a mysterious man visits the Shucker's Booktique on a stormy night drenched in rain and covered in mud, Willa's heart melts under his stormy gaze. She wants Lon and the answers he may have, but he also has a secret. Can Willa trust him?

Lon Devlin is a Tempest, a water sprite who can only take a human form during stormy nights. He rides the waves, lives by the tides, and nothing can hold him down, not even a beautiful woman. When he visits his mortal friend, he discovers she's missing and her intriguing niece has taken her place. He wants Willa, but he also wants answers. What happened to Jenny?

Excerpt:

Thump! Thump! Thump!
No! She gasped. It couldn’t be. The banging on the front door of the booktique had to be a figment of her imagination. She couldn’t will Lon into existence. Why would he come back? Especially if he was involved. Unless…cold ice prickled up her spine…unless he needed to eliminate her to take care of loose ends.
No. Crazy thoughts, Willa. He could’ve taken care of her the night before. No, her heart hammered against her chest for a different reason. But it didn’t matter. The knocking on the door wouldn’t, couldn’t be him.
Thump! Thump! Thump!
Could it? She clutched her hot mug in both hands and turned toward the doorway leading to the bookstore. From the kitchen in the back room, she had a clear view through the store to the front door, but not who stood on the other side.
“Willa!” Lon growled. “Wake up and let me in!”
Willa gasped and almost dropped her cup. The tea sloshed around and some spilled over her hands. It burned, but she didn’t move. She couldn’t breathe. Somehow the air got trapped inside her throat. Why was he here? What did he want?
Oh God, let it be me!

Author Interview- Kayden Claremont

It's Wednesday y'all, to help get you over this hump day I've got author Kayden Claremont with her new release, Hell's Bounty !

Welcome Kayden, tell me three words that describe yourself starting with A, B, and C.

Artistic, book worm and cute. Lol

What are your three favorite things?

Family, friends and chocolate.

Is there a process you stick to, or do you just write as it hits you?

My process is truly confusing for others to follow but it works for me. I write every day, but I don’t always work on the same story. Since I write under two different names and two different genres, today I might be working on a paranormal romance and tomorrow I might be working on a romantic suspense.
I know it sounds strange, but I work with the characters that are talking to me. Sometimes they need time to develop their story so they don’t talk to me, then I switch stories and go with the other characters.

Favorite item of clothing in your closet?

My jeans. I love wearing jeans. I can’t wear them at my day job, so as soon as I get home, I change. There is something about soft denim that just makes y day better.

Will there be more books in your series, or can you tell us about any previous books?

Yes, Hell’s Bounty is the first book of my heaven and hell series.  This series is about people and beings we know about in myth. I like to play with the idea, if they lived in present day society, what would they be doing now. Now would they interact with us and help us.

Blurb

Marcus Dionysius, a Nephilim working for Heaven, has one mission – to prevent Hell’s beauty from stealing souls meant for the higher plane. But he soon realizes he’s met his sexual match in Raven Hart, a succubus bounty hunter on a hunt.

Excerpt

Raven looked over at him. “Marcus, this is the coroner, Doctor Hill. Doc, this is my new partner, Detective Marcus Dionysius.”
Marcus extended his hand to the doctor, but he just paced back and forth, ignoring the proffered handshake. “Oh, my dear, you shouldn’t see this.”
“Doc, I’m a detective. There isn’t much I haven’t seen.” Raven’s no-nonsense tone had no effect on the doctor. “No, dear, not this time.” He took her by the elbow and led her a few feet away from the body. Shaking his head, he continued, “This time it’s too personal. You don’t need to see this.” He pointed at the body on the ground. “It’s Stephen, my dear.”
Marcus watched shock flash across her face for a moment before she got control again. She wasn’t expecting to see her late partner. She hadn’t done this, but that didn’t clear her of the other attacks.
The captain was sleazy. Everyone in heaven and hell knew it. And everyone thought that because Raven worked so closely with him, she was part of his plan. Marcus hoped the sexy succubus wasn’t connected with hell’s mess. He moved closer to the body.
Doctor Hill glanced at him and stopped talking.
Clearing his throat, Marcus said softly to Raven, “I’ll handle this if you’re not up to it. The captain can assign another detective to work the case with me.”
Raven looked up at him, anger flaring in her eyes as she answered, “What do you think I am? Some fragile female who can’t do her job?”

Author Interview- Alicia Dean

It's Monday and what better way to kick of the work week than with a good book.
Celebrating her new release, I've got author Alicia Dean back with us.

Welcome Alicia, like before, tell me three words that describe yourself starting with A, B, and C.

A: Amiable (I won’t say author because that’s too obvious.)
B: Burrower (I know it’s not a real word, but I love to stay inside for days at a time in my pajamas (with regular showering) writing, editing, reading and watching television.)
C: Cincinnati Reds Fan (Is that cheating since it needed the other words?)

What are your three favorite things?

Books
Rainy/snowy/cold weather
Coffee

Was there any particular inspiration for your characters or story?

The idea came to me as I was trying to think of a Halloween/October themed story for the anthology. I knew I wanted to write my first ghost story, I just had to figure out who the ghost was going to be. At first, it was going to be my hero’s mother. Then, I decided it would be my heroine’s husband. The inspiration for my hero was Taylor Kinney from Chicago Fire, even though I don’t watch the show. He caught my eye in Vampire Diaries.

When not writing, what can you be found doing?

Watching a LOT of television, including MLB or NFL. Reading. Hanging with friends and family.

If you could spend the day with any celebrity, who would it be?

Dead or alive? No doubt, hands down, Elvis Presley. Wow…what a dream come true that would be. If they have to be living…uhm…Colin Farrell

BLURB

A year after her husband’s death, Emily Tillman is ready to start dating again, and hopefully, find what she’s always wanted—marriage and children. But the man who broke her heart five years ago is back. And he’s anything but the marrying kind.

Confirmed bachelor Reese Caster is perfectly content with his life—and he’s finally over Emily, the one woman who almost made him commit. Now, his world is rocked when her dead husband shows up, demanding that Reese pursue Emily to keep her out of the clutches of her latest suitor—a jerk who is only after her money.

Being around Emily again has made Reese reconsider his bachelor life style. But now that the threat of the other man is gone, the pesky ghost wants Reese to break things off. Can he and Emily find the love they were denied, or will the ghost of her dead husband destroy their chances?

EXCERPT

Crossing the living room, she grabbed a fireplace poker. Her neck muscles tightened with wariness as she hurried to the door.
Cautiously, she peered through the peephole. Her tension eased when she found Caster standing on her porch.
She threw the door open. “Caster?” He wore olive green scrubs, and his face looked haggard, his mouth drawn into a frown. The porch light reflected in his eyes, making them look like chipped emeralds. “Is everything okay?”
He stepped inside and snaked his arms around her waist, pulling her against him in a tight hug. She wrapped her arms around his shoulders and held on fiercely. His muscles tensed, then relaxed beneath her hands.
“I’m sorry, I just…” He pulled away and looked into her eyes. One of his hands left her waist and cupped the back of her head. “I just…need you.” He bent his head and clamped his mouth onto hers. His lips moved against her, coaxing her lips apart, slipping his tongue inside, searching, seeking, ravaging her with his kiss. The scrape of his whiskers on her flesh was slightly painful, yet at the same time stimulating. Her knees weakened, and she stood on tiptoes, pressed her body into his, and returned the kiss. His hands slipped inside her robe, his fingers finding the flesh between her pajama top and bottoms. Heat scorched her skin, and she moaned deep in her throat.
With a strangled groan, he lifted his head, breaking the kiss. He squeezed his eyes shut and let out an unsteady breath. “I’m sorry. I didn’t plan to…” He released her and stepped back.
She brought a trembling hand to her lips. Tingles washed over her skin, and she wrapped her robe more tightly around her body. “It—it’s okay.” She moved back and swept her arm out. “Do you want to come in?”
“I shouldn’t have come here at this time of night. You were sleeping.”
“I can see you’re upset. Want to tell me what happened? I can make coffee.”
“You sure?” His expression was a mixture of uncertainty and gratitude. She’d never seen Caster looking so…vulnerable, and it chipped away a little more at her heart. Danger…danger…

Author Interview- Brenda Whiteside

It's Friday folks. Another work week is under our belts and we're ready to get our weekend on!
To help celebrate I've got author Brenda Whiteside with her new book,
The Art of Love and Murder.

Happy Friday Brenda and thanks for being with us.
Thanks so much for having me on your blog today, Angela. I’m excited to have your readers learn about my latest release, The Art of Love and Murder, the first book in my Love and Murder series. I hope everyone enters the Rafflecopter drawing for a tote bag of items that relate to the book. The more you enter, the more chances you have to win. This link will direct you to all the blogs on my tour: http://brendawhiteside.blogspot.com/p/contests-and-give-ways.html
Readers, be sure to read through the interview. You'll find the rafflecopter code at the end of this post.
Brenda, can you tell me three words that describe yourself starting with A, B, and C?
Tough question! I got out my dictionary when my mind froze up.  I came across ancient and ageless, and depending on the day, they both apply. But seriously, I’ll go with active. My husband says I don’t know how to relax. For B, I’ll go with blurry-eyed. Not sure that’s a real word but my mom uses it. It describes my state this time of year. I live on a small farm and between chores and my writing, I get very little sleep. C=control freak. But please give me a break here because I’m working on this. What I’ve always considered being helpful, well, not everyone sees it this way.
What are your three favorite things?
I’ll answer this as in addition to writing. I love family time, especially if it involves my nineteen-month-old granddaughter. She’s an absolute delight. Road trips are a favorite thing. Getting in the car and taking off for anywhere is relaxing and fun. Reading would be a third thing but it has to be in a great setting like on the beach or curled under a blanket in a mountain cabin.

As the holidays approach, what traditions do you have?

We started a tradition when we moved to the prairie and began farming. We have three generations living on the same land, me and my husband, my son and his wife, and our granddaughter. We celebrate Winter Solstice. After researching it, we’ve combined a few of the traditional customs. We have a meal made with as much of our farm food as possible. Presents to each other are opened. Once the sun is down we have a campfire and each of us speaks of the past year and the year ahead. We had to add smores although I doubt any traditional Solstice celebrations incorporated the gooey treat.

Will there be more books in your series, or can you tell us about any previous books?

I have four more books planned for this series. The Art of Love and Murder is book one. Lacy and Chance are the stars. Book two, Southwest of Love and Murder, is at the publishers and going through the process. This book is about Lacy’s best friend, Phoebe, and Chance’s twin brother, Mason. Phoebe and Mason run into murder and mystery while finding love on a ranch in Chino Valley, Arizona. In book three, A Legacy of Love and Murder which I am currently writing, Lacy and her daughter, August, go to Austria to find more about Lacy’s father. But it’s really the story of August and the Austrian Inspector Tobias Wolf. Nazis, murder and love all tangle together. In book four we’ll go back to Flagstaff, Arizona for Penny’s story. We met Penny in book one as the hotel clerk where Lacy stayed. Book five will be set in Chino Valley again and will involve murder and love for Mason’s and Chance’s father.

Favorite item of clothing in your closet?

Lacy Dahl never questioned her past until the deaths of her adoptive parents and her husband.  A husband who wasn't what he seemed.  Her research uncovers secrets about the mother she never knew; secrets that dispute the identity of her father and threaten her life.
Sheriff Chance Meadowlark is still haunted by the murder of his wife and the revenge he unleashed in the name of justice.  When he meets Lacy he is determined not to become involved, but their pasts may make that impossible.  As they move closer to the truth, saving Lacy may be his only salvation.
Lacy begins to think the present is more important than her past...until Chance's connection to her mother and a murder spin her deeper into danger and further from love.  Will the truth destroy Lacy and Chance or will it be the answer that frees them?

Excerpt:

Momentarily struck dumb by his eye color, she stared back. Why hadn’t she noticed until now? Although not as light as hers or her father’s, the professor’s eyes were a startling green shade.
His hand nudged her arm. “Lacy?”
She jumped. “Oh, yes.” She slipped the tissue from the half-carved wolf. Another glance at his eyes and goose bumps riddled her arms.
He lifted the wood close to his face, using both hands as if handling a delicate hummingbird. His thumb traced the neck of the creature to the juncture of where it emerged from the wood. When he brought the piece to his nose, closing his eyes and breathing deeply, Lacy wanted to turn away from the oddly erotic gesture.
He swallowed, opened his eyes and set the wolf back on the tissue. His attention shifted to the photograph of the chest. He touched the photo, a smile on his lips. “Where is the chest?”
The chest. Like he knew it, had seen it before. “I’m having it sent. You’ve seen it before?”
He didn’t move, stared out the window as if deep in thought. “I’d like to show you something, Lacy.”
“All right.” She waited, watching his profile.
He turned and stared into her face a moment. “You’re so very lovely. A creation full of life and passion, surpassing any art form.”
His hypnotic voice floated on the classical strains drifting from the living room. She couldn’t speak. Didn’t know what to say. She’d been lifted upon a pedestal of admiration. With any other man, she might consider his words a means to a sexual end. The professor’s intentions, however, were crystal. He admired her like a work of art.
